Seahawks Predicted To Select 6-INT CB in 2026 NFL Draft As Riq Woolen’s Replacement

PFSN’s 2026 NFL Mock Draft links Seattle to a rising cornerback as Riq Woolen nears free agency.

Seattle’s roster looks built to contend deep into January, yet several long-term decisions are already looming beneath the surface. One of the most significant sits in the secondary, where a cornerstone defender is nearing a contract crossroads that could reshape the depth chart. How the Seahawks choose to navigate that situation will influence how their defense is constructed going forward.

Seahawks Predicted To Target San Diego CB Chris Johnson in 2026 NFL Draft

The latest 2026 NFL Mock Draft from PFSN’s Jacob Infante projects Seattle to select San Diego State cornerback Chris Johnson with the No. 32 overall pick. The projection comes with Riq Woolen scheduled to reach free agency, creating a scenario in which Seattle could decide to restock the position through the draft rather than make a long-term financial commitment at cornerback.

Johnson’s 2025 season is what pushed him into first-round consideration. In 11 games, he recorded 4 interceptions, 9 pass breakups, and 2 pick-sixes, while allowing a passer rating of just 16.1 when targeted. That figure placed him among the most effective coverage defenders in the country and made him the top Group of Five prospect on many draft boards.

His full body of work shows steady progression. Over four seasons at San Diego State, Johnson totaled 152 tackles, 6 interceptions, and 14 passes defended. His ball production jumped this past year, while he also added three tackles for loss and a sack, showing more impact in run support and behind the line of scrimmage.

Infante’s mock draft described Johnson as a smooth and intelligent cornerback who reads route concepts well and plays with a physical edge in run defense. That profile fits a Seattle defense that prioritizes versatility and play recognition on the outside. Johnson projects as a long and rangy defender with the size to defend both outside and slot pass catchers.

“With an allowed passer rating of just 16.1 this season, Chris Johnson is my top Group of 5 prospect in this draft and catapulted himself into first-round pick conversation with a stellar 2025. He’s a smooth, intelligent cornerback who reads route concepts well and also plays with a scrappy demeanor in run support,” Infante wrote.

Woolen’s contract status makes the projection tricky. The Seahawks’ top corner is positioned to test the open market after this season, and starting-caliber cornerbacks routinely command some of the largest deals among defensive players. Selecting Johnson at the end of the first round would give Seattle a cost-controlled option at a premium position while maintaining financial flexibility elsewhere on the roster.

Seattle’s defense has remained a strength through multiple roster cycles. This year, the Seahawks ranked third in PFSN’s Defense Impact Metric. The mock draft suggests the front office could be preparing for its next transition in the secondary. Johnson’s rise gives the Seahawks a draft-day path to restock their defensive back room.
