Ahead of the game, the headlines have been dominated by the coaching situation at Ole Miss. Following Lane Kiffin’s move to LSU, the Rebels’ head coach, Pete Golding, has lost receivers coach George McDonald and tight ends coach Joe Cox ahead of tonight’s game.

“Everything was on track, it’s headed in the right direction. We’ve got really good players. There was already a culture created, they knew the expectation,” Golding stated ahead of the game. Offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. is set to return for tonight.

Weis Jr. was a key part of Ole Miss’ offense’s playcalling this season, which ranked 13th nationally in total offense per the PFSN College Football OFFi, averaging 309.6 passing yards per game, and 11th in scoring with 37.3 points per game.

“It has zero impact on our preparation, and I think it’s safe to say that it doesn’t impact their preparation as well. They’re a great football team with great coaches that are in place, and they’re preparing just as hard for this as they have.” Miami head coach Mario Cristobal revealed before tonight’s clash.

Weis Jr.’s Ole Miss offense will come up against one of the best defenses in college football. According to PFSN College Defensive Impact Rankings, Miami’s defense ranks fifth nationally. Ahead of the game, Cristobal singled out Ole Miss’s Trinidad Chambliss.

“Yeah, we have faced some really good ones throughout the course of the year, especially the last couple of weeks. And watching him on film, he’s on a different level. I mean, he can do it all, and he has excelled in every aspect of the game.” Cristobal revealed.

After throwing for over 600 yards and three touchdowns across both of Ole Miss’s playoff games, the quarterback is one game away from a National Championship after spending multiple years as a D2 athlete. However, he will have to compete with NFL-bound Edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. and Miami’s defense first.
