The New York Giants finished their season on a strong note, winning their final two games. While winning is nice, even if it hurts draft position, the more important aspect is that the Giants look to have their quarterback of the future in Jaxon Dart. As such, veteran quarterback Russell Wilson is facing a decision regarding his future.
Russell Wilson Speaks on His NFL Future
Wilson might have been benched in favor of Dart, but that doesn’t mean he is done. He shared his plans for his football future with the media.
According to Connor Hughes of SNYtv, Wilson said there is no situation where he can’t see himself playing football next year. The statement effectively shut down any immediate retirement talk and made it clear that Wilson intends to continue his career despite his diminished role and uncertain standing across the league.

While Wilson’s comments were not entirely surprising, they did draw attention given how his career has trended over the past several seasons. Since the Seattle Seahawks traded him during the 2022 offseason, Wilson’s performance and overall impact have steadily declined.
Wilson spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the Denver Broncos and played below many’s expectations. In 30 starts, Wilson completed 63.3% (589/930) of his passes for 6,594 yards, 42 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions.
While that seems like decent play, it resulted in an 11-19 record for the Broncos with Wilson as the starter. Denver’s most significant issue with Wilson at quarterback was their inability to move the ball consistently and a lack of big plays. What made Wilson’s tenure with the Broncos look even worse was the massive five-year $245 million contract extension they handed him.
After the 2023 season, Denver cut ties with Wilson, and he ended up in Pittsburgh. In 2024, Wilson started 11 games for the Steelers, going 6-5 while completing 63.7% (214 of 336) for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Nevertheless, the same issues persisted in Pittsburgh as they did in Denver.
Prior to New York starting Dart this season, Wilson looked atrocious. In three games, he completed 58.0% (69 of 119) of his passes for 831 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. All of Wilson’s passing success came against a terrible Dallas Cowboys defense in Week 2.
According to PFSN’s QB Impact Metric, Wilson earned an impact score of 61.1 across those three games. This ranked him 41st among qualified starters in 2025 and 857th since 2020. Given his recent performances, Wilson has fallen out of Hall of Fame discussions in the eyes of many fans.
Continuing his career may only make him fall further out of grace. That doesn’t seem to matter to Wilson, however, as it seems he wants to continue playing the game he loves.
