The Las Vegas Raiders are now the worst scoring team in the NFL with a 2-14 record, and that is under a two-time national champion and a Super Bowl champion, Pete Carroll. That is why the latest report by a senior NFL insider suggests a scary picture for the 74-year-old NFL coach.
Will the Raiders Move On From Pete Carroll?
When the Raiders made an offseason move by hiring Carroll for the Apex coaching position, it was expected that he would definitely change Las Vegas’ image, one overshadowed by a 42-year Super Bowl drought. However, the Raiders failed to deliver a winning season instead. And that’s why the talks are swirling in the city to fire Carroll for the upcoming NFL season.
Discussing the real picture in the Raiders’ front office, insider Dianna Russini has shed light on the issue and given her verdict on whether this will be the first and last year in Vegas for Carroll.
Russini from The Athletic wrote in her latest report, “The Las Vegas Raiders have an inside track to the No. 1 pick in April’s draft and are likely headed toward a head-coaching change in 2026. That’s a significant amount of potential turnover, and the bigger question might not be whether 74-year-old Pete Carroll is dismissed, but who ultimately makes that decision.”
While the insider couldn’t firmly say who will make the ultimate decision on Carroll. “Is it principal owner Mark Davis? Minority owner Tom Brady? General manager John Spytek?” Russini added.
Historic Offensive Failure Doomed Carroll’s First Season
Historically poor results have defined Carroll’s first season with the Las Vegas Raiders. It was one of the weakest seasons the franchise has produced in decades, and it immediately put Carroll under scrutiny, despite his Hall of Fame resume.
Per the offensive metrics of PFSN, the Raiders were among the league’s worst units across the board. They ranked 32nd in scoring, averaging just 14.2 points per game, and also finished last in total offense and yards per game.

Advanced metrics painted the same picture, with the Raiders placing 30th in offensive EPA, indicating sustained inefficiency rather than bad luck. Several analysts noted it was trending toward the franchise’s worst offensive output since 2009.
Quarterback play only deepened the problems. Geno Smith, brought in to stabilize the offense, threw for roughly 3,000 yards with 19 touchdowns but led the NFL with 17 interceptions, while also missing time due to injury.
The lack of protection and constant pressure forced the offense into conservative game plans, and the instability eventually led to multiple changes in offensive play-calling, including the midseason dismissal of the offensive coordinator.
Defensively, Carroll’s traditional strength failed to compensate. The Raiders surrendered 420 total points, averaging 26.3 points per game, which kept them in the bottom tier of the league.
While there were occasional flashes, breakdowns late in games, and poor complementary football erased any momentum. Combined with offensive struggles, the defense was routinely left on the field and wore down. That was the reason the Raiders fan wanted Carroll to get fired after the seventh game in the 2025 NFL season.
But now, as the regular season is winding down, the Raiders are preparing for the offseason move. And maybe firing Carroll might be the first major move in the 2026 offseason.
