Saints Legend Makes His Stance Clear on Tyler Shough’s Future

That optimism is shared by one of the most respected voices in team history. Appearing on “Up & Adams” with Kay Adams, former Saints All-Pro tackle Terron Armstead made it clear he believes Shough is the real deal.

When asked whether the Saints have their quarterback, Armstead responded without hesitation.

“I believe so, I believe so. I feel strongly about Shough, what he’s been able to do. He’s creating, he’s making plays, he’s pushing the ball downfield, he’s way faster than I ever thought he would be,” Armstead said.

Shough has shown steady improvement each week, particularly in his command at the line of scrimmage and his willingness to challenge defenses vertically. Armstead noted that while the early returns are promising, the rookie’s ceiling remains even higher.

“[He has] so much room to grow in his process, diagnosing defenses at the line, making quicker decisions,” Armstead said.

For Armstead, the trajectory is unmistakable. “Definitely excited. Bright future for the Saints,” he added.

The excitement around Shough has extended beyond the locker room. Fans have embraced the rookie’s confidence and creativity, viewing him as a potential long-term cornerstone for a franchise eager to return to postseason relevance. His rise has brought renewed energy to the Superdome and sparked optimism throughout the city as New Orleans looks to build on its early momentum.

The Saints still rank 27th in the league with a PFSN Offense Impact score of 68.6, a reflection of the inconsistency that defined the early part of the season. But there has been noticeable improvement since Shough replaced Spencer Rattler, with the offense showing more rhythm, explosiveness, and situational efficiency during the current winning streak.

New Orleans has leaned on a balanced offense and a resurgent defense during its winning streak, but Shough’s poise and playmaking have become the catalyst. His ability to extend plays and push the ball downfield has added a dimension New Orleans has lacked since the final years of the Drew Brees era.

With Shough gaining momentum and the Saints climbing the NFC standings, the conversation in New Orleans has shifted from uncertainty to genuine optimism about what comes next.
