Carlos Alcaraz’s Former Coach Juan Carlos Ferrero Reveals Whether Reconciliation Remains Possible for Them

Juan Carlos Ferrero told Marca he remains open to reuniting with Carlos Alcaraz in the future following their recent split after seven successful years.

One of the most seismic developments of the 2025 season was Carlos Alcaraz’s split with longtime coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, marking the end of one of tennis’ most successful partnerships. Their seven-year association helped shape Alcaraz into one of the sport’s most formidable forces, making the decision all the more surprising when it was confirmed earlier this month. Now, just days after the development, Ferrero has addressed whether a reunion with the Spaniard could still be on the cards.

Carlos Alcaraz’s Former Coach Juan Carlos Ferrero Leaves the ‘Door Open’ While Discussing Their Future

Under Ferrero’s guidance, Alcaraz authored one of the most remarkable journeys in modern tennis, capturing 24 career titles, including six Grand Slams, and becoming the youngest player to reach the summit of the ATP rankings in 2022. That dominance continued this season as the Spaniard claimed eight tour-level titles, including three Masters 1000 crowns and two Grand Slams, before finishing the year as world No. 1.

The Spaniard shared the shocking news on Instagram, sparking widespread debate among the fans and pundits alike. In fact, Ferrero also honored their journey on Instagram, admitting that parting ways with his compatriot wasn’t easy.

In an exclusive interview with Marca published on Dec. 24, the former French Open champion was asked whether the chapter between them had been closed for good or if the possibility of a future reunion remained open. Ferrero made it clear that the split was not driven by bitterness. He emphasized that their strong personal bond remains intact, differences of opinion are natural, and a future reunion is possible.

“Of course I’m not closing the door. With the relationship we’ve had, closing the door definitively wouldn’t be logical, neither for him nor for the team. I want to end things well with them. Disagreeing on certain points doesn’t mean we’re not still friends or that we don’t maintain a very good relationship,” he said.

Ferrero expressed unwavering faith in Alcaraz’s extraordinary potential, reiterating his belief that the Spaniard can become one of the greatest tennis players in history, while stressing that a capable team could guide him forward.

“I wish Carlos all the best, and I believe he has the potential to be the best tennis player in history. It’s something I’ve said many times. And even if I’m not there, he has people around him who can prepare him very well,” he added.

Moreover, in the same interview, the Spanish coach acknowledged that there were specific areas of disagreement between the two sides, though he chose not to disclose the details. He explained that both camps acted according to what they believed was in Alcaraz’s best interests.
