“Tennis Court” was described as Lorde’s reflection on her then-impending fame, achieving commercial success in Oceania by topping the charts in New Zealand and reaching No. 20 in Australia. She explained that she wrote the track after gaining an early glimpse into the music industry, noting that it made her reflect on superficiality and the façades people often present. The image of a tennis court, she added, struck her as visually appealing and nostalgic, something she frequently revisited online and associated with familiarity and safety.
On the court, Gauff won 48 of the 64 matches she played, capturing her second major title at the French Open, once again defeating Aryna Sabalenka, whom the American also beat in the final of the 2023 US Open. She also won the WTA 1000 event in Wuhan and finished runner-up in Madrid and Rome.
However, despite that success, there were stretches when Gauff looked far from her best. Her serving frailties resurfaced, contributing to a midseason dip in form.
