Joe Burrow’s ‘Alarming’ Words About NFL Future ‘Got the Attention’ of Rival Teams, ESPN’s Adam Schefter Reveals

Following Joe Burrow's concerning media comments, NFL insider Adam Schefter added a development that Bengals fans won't like.

Joe Burrow, the Cincinnati Bengals’ star quarterback, recently made comments that set off alarms among fans and observers. Since the team’s 2021 Super Bowl run, Cincinnati has faced a steady stream of injuries, contract drama, and on-field setbacks; turbulence that now seems to be weighing heavily on Burrow himself.

Following Burrow’s alarming comments to the media, fans are beginning to wonder how much time Burrow has left not only with the Bengals but with the game of football altogether. According to one NFL insider, teams have indeed taken notice, keeping a close eye on the league’s top signal callers.

Joe Burrow’s Remarks Intrigue Rival Teams

When speaking to the media ahead of the Bengals’ Week 15 game on Sunday against AFC North rivals, the Baltimore Ravens, Burrow appeared dejected, discussing the fun he is currently having playing football, or the lack thereof.

“If I want to keep doing this, I have to have fun doing it,” Burrow told reporters.

NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that, among all the craziness that has occurred throughout the days leading up to Week 15, Burrow’s comments were the most intriguing. Not only did Schefter take an interest in Burrow’s words and body language, but rival teams did so as well.

“Other teams in the league took notice of that, I could tell you that for a fact,” Schefter said, speaking about Burrow’s comments.

Now, this doesn’t mean any drastic move is imminent; however, teams are in fact monitoring Burrow’s situation just in case.

Schefter then went on to make an Andrew Luck comparison, something Bengals fans have certainly heard enough of in the past.

Schefter stated that, in 86 NFL games, Luck was sacked 174 times. Compare that wildly high number to Burrow, who in 73 NFL games has been sacked a grand total of 203 times, a number that puts Burrow near the top of a list that no quarterback wants headline.

Schefter goes on to say that maybe it is just the end of the season, and Burrow is dealing with a lot on his plate. “There’s just a lot of things going on right now,” Burrow said when asked if he was frustrated, as he seemed to be. But that doesn’t make things any less concerning for Bengals fans.

For a team that is still hanging on to their playoff hopes by a string of dental floss, those are not the words fans want to be hearing from their leader and game changer. This week’s game against the Ravens is crucial to their playoff hopes, but Burrow mentioned that no one is thinking about playoffs right now, even with the chance of their hopes drastically improving with a win in Baltimore.

Burrow is elite, certainly one of the most talented quarterbacks in the NFL, and PFSN agrees. Even though Burrow has only started in four games thus far, his numbers remain strong. PFSN’s QBi metrics give Burrow a score of 76.7 (C), which ranks 15th among eligible quarterbacks this season.

While Burrow’s request for a trade remains unlikely at this time, seemingly anything is on the table, including the way of Luck and an early retirement. Burrow’s body has taken a beating over his six seasons in the NFL, and it doesn’t seem to be getting any easier.

Following Burrow’s comments, Schefter confirmed that teams are keeping an eye on the two-time Pro Bowler, with the hope that his time in Cincinnati will come to an end someday soon.

However, for now, Burrow remains focused on finding joy in football once again as his Bengals desperately hold onto any remaining playoff hope.
