Year after year, Joe Burrow seems to get let down. Whether it’s his health, coaching, the offensive line, or the defense, the superstar quarterback has always had something working against him in Cincinnati.
Ahead of Week 15, Burrow shared comments with the media that left Bengals fans uneasy about their quarterback’s future.
What Did Burrow Say?
Following Wednesday’s practice before the Bengals’ Week 15 matchup with the Ravens, Burrow delivered some dejected answers in his press conference. The newly turned 29-year-old quarterback said that if he wants to keep playing football, he needs to enjoy it again, explaining, “I’ve been through a lot. If it’s not fun, then what am I doing it for?”
When asked if his frustration was tied to football or personal matters, he replied, “All of the above.” Burrow also noted that the team isn’t focused on the playoffs and is taking things one week at a time. His tone throughout made it clear he was worn down, and it raised fundamental questions about whether the grind is starting to take a toll.
Fans reacted immediately on X. One wrote, “I don’t like the vibes. Not a bit. I pray to all religious figures that this organization does not break this man. If you can’t do it for him, you won’t do it for anyone,” suggesting that Cincinnati has drained Burrow’s passion for the game.

I pray to all religious figures out there that this organization does not break this man.

Another fan compared his comments to Andrew Luck’s final seasons, saying, “This sounds like Andrew Luck,” while others echoed the same concern: “He might retire, honestly. Sucks because he’s a great QB and elite processor.” The Luck comparisons continued, with one user adding, “Bengals are ruining him like the Colts did to Andrew Luck.”
One Bengals fan even said he’d walk away from the team if Burrow ever left, posting, “If they drive this man to early retirement or a trade request, I will probably be out. If they won’t go all in for this guy, we are doomed as a team.”
Clearly, fans are worried that Burrow may be nearing a breaking point.
On the other hand, Burrow hasn’t said anything definitive about retirement, and at this point, it’s still speculation. What is clear is that Cincinnati needs to support its franchise quarterback before frustration becomes something more.
Burrow’s résumé includes a Heisman Trophy, a national championship, the No. 1 overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, two Pro Bowls, two Comeback Player of the Year awards, and a Super Bowl appearance. The Bengals cannot afford to let the situation with their star quarterback unravel any further.
