It’s been a roller coaster season for Chris Godwin Jr. and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As the end of the year rapidly draws near, the club controls its own destiny. Despite several significant injuries, including Godwin, the Buccaneers head into a critical Week 14 division matchup atop the NFC South.
After snapping their three-game losing streak with a victory over the Arizona Cardinals, the Buccaneers will look to take down long-time rivals, the New Orleans Saints, in order to keep their momentum rolling. What Did Chris Godwin Jr. Say About His Teammates’ Comeback Efforts?
Godwin is no stranger to significant injuries, which is why he is one of the players on the Buccaneers roster best suited to comment on Jalen McMillan’s potential return. The veteran wide receiver had nothing but praise for his younger teammate for the way that he has handled his recovery from a scary neck injury that he suffered during the preseason.
“It’s really awesome and just a testament to him and how he approached his rehab and just giving himself time to heal,” Godwin Jr. explained to the media. “Anything involving the neck is always really scary. It’s a violent game that we play and you just never know how things will affect guys long-term but seeing him walking around and moving around really good, and seeing how healthy he is is really good for us all,” he continued.
McMillan showed off his sky-high potential for the Buccaneers last season, racking up eight total touchdowns for the club. Although there is no clear timeline for his return, having McMillan back in the fold will help a Buccaneers offense that ranks 26th in the NFL according to PFSN’s Offense Impact ratings.
The 23-year-old wide receiver suffered three fractured vertebrae and ligament damage after being upended in a preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The injury left him in a neck brace for several months, which makes his pending return even more impressive.
It’s not only McMillan who could be back in uniform soon, as club legend Mike Evans is also working his way back to the team. Superstar quarterback Baker Mayfield might soon have a plethora of elite weapons around him as the team looks to secure its 5th straight division title.
