What Happened to Josh Jacobs? A Look at Why the Packers RB Is Not Playing vs. Vikings

Josh Jacobs is not playing in Week 12 against the Minnesota Vikings. Here is the latest update on the status of the Packers running back.

Heading into Week 12, the Green Bay Packers are 6-3-1 and sit second in the NFC North, but they have cooled off in recent weeks. Green Bay has dropped two of its last three and needed a late surge to beat an injury-depleted Giants team.

The final seven games will define their season, with five divisional matchups ahead, including a Week 12 showdown with the Vikings at Lambeau Field. To navigate that stretch, the Packers will need their key players on the field, particularly Josh Jacobs, who will be unavailable for Week 12.

Josh Jacobs Injury Update

On the Packers’ final injury report ahead of Week 12, three-time Pro Bowler Josh Jacobs was listed as questionable with a knee injury.

The issue goes back to Week 11 against the Giants. Jacobs said the injury occurred on the second play of the game, when he was tackled while heading out of bounds and drove his knee into the unforgiving MetLife turf. After that, he rotated in and out of the lineup before eventually heading to the locker room, where he was ruled out.

NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported on Saturday that Jacobs is a true game-time decision for the Packers.

“Packers plan to work out RB Josh Jacobs, who is listed as questionable due to a knee injury, in pre-game warmups before deciding whether or not he will play vs. the Vikings, per source,” Schefter wrote on X. “Though Jacobs knee is structurally sound, it still is tender from last week and the Packers have another game in four days on Thanksgiving in Detroit to consider. But the team wants to see how Jacobs feels pregame before making any decisions.”

Jacobs was eventually ruled out for the game against the Vikings, and it will be interesting to see how the Packers’ offense will operate without him. Hopefully, he will be healthy to return in Week 13.

On Friday, LaFleur offered an encouraging update. According to Packers reporter Zack Kruse, the coach said, “Just talking to him, he’s feeling pretty good.” The 27-year-old logged another limited practice, which leads us to his questionable tag for Sunday’s matchup with the Vikings.

Ranked No. 12 on PFSN’s RB Impact Ranking, Jacobs is a huge part of the Packers’ offense, and the team will hope to get him back soon.
