The Green Bay Packers have been desperately searching for a spark, and a promising update on their top wide receiver might provide just that. Jayden Reed has been on Injured Reserve since the second week of the 2025-26 season after undergoing foot and collarbone surgeries.
However, recent news suggests his return could be imminent, offering a major boost for an offense that needs him.
When Will Packers Wide Receiver Jayden Reed Return?
For Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love, Jayden Reed is the undisputed number one wide receiver in head coach Matt LaFleur’s offense. That is why a recent report from The Athletic suggesting Reed could return to the practice field as early as Wednesday is such significant news.
Matt Schneidman of The Athletic detailed a key exchange with the coach: “LaFleur was asked Monday if the Packers will open the 21-day practice windows for any players this week and the head coach flashed a massive smile while saying, ‘I sure as heck hope so.’ He added that the team will have a better idea about the availability of Reed and running back MarShawn Lloyd over the next two days.”
Meanwhile, Reed is not the only offensive weapon the Packers are monitoring. The team is also waiting on the status of running back Josh Jacobs, who suffered a knee contusion Sunday against the New York Giants. LaFleur expressed hope that Jacobs would be ready for Green Bay’s next game against the Minnesota Vikings, but if not, Emmanuel Wilson is prepared to fill in.
The need for healthy players is evident as the team moves into the second half of the season. According to the PFSN NFL Offense Impact metrics, Green Bay’s offense currently has a B grade with an Impact Score of 84.0.
With a 6-3-1 record, the Packers need all hands on deck as they head into the crucial latter part of the 2025-26 NFL season. Drilling down further, the PFSN NFL RB Impact metrics indicate that Jacobs has an NFL RB Impact Score of 81.9, which grades out as a B-.
Reed’s absence has certainly been felt. So far in the 2025-26 campaign, he has just three catches for 45 yards and one touchdown. This is a stark contrast to his overall production across his three-season career with the Packers, where he has accumulated 122 receptions for 1,695 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Getting Reed back into the offensive game plan would be a welcome sight for both Love and LaFleur. While it remains to be seen how he will look in his return to game action, the high regard the team has for his efforts underscores the potential impact he can make on the field.
