Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas may not be in the strongest stretch of his career, but he recently made his determination to rediscover his peak form unmistakably clear. His resolve surprised many and even prompted former Australian player, seasoned pundit, and Serena Williams’ former coach, Rennae Stubbs, who boasts an extensive coaching résumé, to offer her services.
Serena Williams’ Former Coach, Rennae Stubbs, Has a Special Offer for Stefanos Tsitsipas
The 2025 season has not reflected what the 27-year-old is truly capable of, with his only bright spot being an ATP 500 title in Dubai. However, the bigger picture shows an underwhelming 22-18 win-loss record in a year disrupted by a chronic lower back injury and tensions with his coaches. Consequently, Tsitsipas, who was once ranked as high as World No.3, has now slipped to No. 34 in the ATP rankings.
Friction with his coaches, especially his father, Apostolos Tsitsipas, was another concerning aspect of the Greek’s journey. In August of last year, the former World No. 3 severed ties with his father after tensions escalated at the National Bank Open in Montreal. The 27-year-old later said that his father’s constant yelling during matches unsettled him and said he would adjust his coaching set-up moving forward.
Furthermore, signs of strain continued when he brought in Goran Ivanišević in May. The collaboration lasted only two months and yielded disappointing performances. Ivanisevic later spoke bluntly, describing Tsitsipas as the most “unprepared” player he had encountered.
The 27-year-old recently revisited his breakthrough 2019 ATP Finals triumph, sharing the winning moment on X. He also made it clear that he was focused on recapturing that level of tennis.
“Six years ago, I experienced my greatest joy as a tennis player, winning the ATP Finals on my debut. It was especially beautiful sharing the stage with Domi, my best friend on tour. The high may have worn off, but I will do everything to ride it again,” he wrote.

Fomer Australian player and four-time women’s doubles Grand Slam champion Stubbs later took note of Tsitsipas’ strong message and wrote:

Stubbs is no stranger to elite coaching, having worked with stars like Karolina Pliskova, Sam Stosur, Eugenie Bouchard, and a brief stint alongside 23-time Major champion Serena Williams during her 2022 US Open farewell.
