Giants HC Brian Daboll Breaks Silence on Franchise’s Rumored Plan To Fire Him After Disastrous Week 7 Loss

Brian Daboll offered up a blunt response to a report that he was almost fired after the team's disastrous loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 7.

Brian Daboll is having another tough season as the head coach of the New York Giants. The team is sporting a 2-7 record heading into Week 10 and is currently riding a three-game losing streak. Now, Daboll is having to deal with loud calls for his job after it seems all but certain that the Giants will once again miss the playoffs in 2025.

Apparently, things came to a head in Week 7 after the Giants blew a 26-8 fourth quarter lead against the Broncos. It was an improbable loss and it’s not surprising the Giants’ ownership group was furious. On Friday, Daboll was asked about the report that he was almost fired after that Week 7 debacle.

Brian Daboll Has Blunt Response to Reports About Job Security

New York radio host Shaun Morash claimed on Friday that Daboll “was fired” after the Week 7 loss. However, “cooler heads prevailed,” and the ownership group decided not to make a move at that time.

“Not winning enough games,” Daboll said on Friday, per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. “Lots of reports out there.”

Daboll is a coach who is no stranger to rumors. Many expected the coach, along with general manager Joe Schoen, to be fired last offseason. Owner John Mara has been hesitant to move on from Daboll, though, and Morash’s report is just the latest such example.

In that Week 7 game, Daboll’s Giants had an 18-point lead with just over 10 minutes to play. The Broncos then scored 22 points in nine minutes to make it a 30-26 game. The Giants were able to regain the lead, but Jude McAtamney missed the extra point, and the Giants ended up falling by a score of 33-32.

Since then, the Giants have lost by 18 to the Philadelphia Eagles and 10 to the San Francisco 49ers. Now, the team will take on the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers over the next two weeks. The team doesn’t have its bye until Week 14.

It can’t be comforting for Daboll to know how close he was to being fired. However, it’s also probably not surprising, considering Daboll has a 20-39-1 record as a head coach. The team made the postseason in Daboll’s first season, but hasn’t returned since, and seems unlikely to do so this year.

If the Giants continue to struggle, Daboll may not be the coach after the bye week. There’s also no guarantee that Schoen is safe for much longer, either. It doesn’t help that standout rookie running back Cam Skattebo is out for the season, significantly hindering the offense.
