Chris Grier was with the Miami Dolphins for over 25 years and served as their general manager since the 2016 NFL season. His run as officially come to an end as the two sides reportedly parted ways following their Week 9 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football.
Many Dolphins fans reacted to the news, which came in the next morning, immediately following their defeat on TNF. Most of their fan base appears to be celebrating the change in leadership, as the team has struggled to a disastrous 2-7 record this year.

Grier has produced mixed results during nearly a decade as the general manager of the Dolphins. The announcement to “mutually part ways” was officially announced by Dolphins owner Stephen Ross after their reported meeting on Friday morning to discuss the current state of the franchise. He will be replaced by Champ Kelly for the remainder of the 2025 NFL season as the interim general manager, before a final decision is presumably made at some point during the offseason for a permanent solution.

It shouldn’t come as much of a shock that he was on the hot seat, but what may be surprising to some around the Dolphins is that head coach Mike McDaniel is apparently safe in his current position, at least for now. ESPN reported that he is expected to keep his role for the remainder of the season before being reevaluated during the offseason.
The Dolphins made the playoffs in each of McDaniels’ first two seasons as head coach, but they failed to advance past the first round in both, suffering losses to the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs. They then missed the postseason last year and have just two wins through nine weeks of his fourth season. Based on PFSN’s Offense Impact metric, Miami has the 22nd-ranked offense in the league.
Grier hasn’t found much additional success with other head coaches in Miami, as he has just one more playoff appearance, despite six extra years in his role without McDaniel.
