There are many questions surrounding Shedeur Sanders and the Cleveland Browns, with the most significant being when Kevin Stefanski will let Sanders play. Sanders has not started this season, and the Browns are struggling. Fans are starting to question the team’s decision.
The Browns are struggling offensively. Their quarterback production is underwhelming. As fans grow impatient waiting for Sanders to have his chance on the field, Asante Samuel thinks the same. Everyone is being vocal about wanting Sanders to play. Samuel has an interesting take on the whole Sander situation.
What Is the Shedeur Sanders Situation?
Samuel feels that the Browns are doing everything they can to keep Sanders off the field. He even says passionately, “They’re doing everything in their power.” Those were his exact words. He lists many injuries that Sanders has that are keeping him from playing.
Sanders is dealing with soreness, oblique injury, and now he is “too tight” for the field. Samuel even says Sanders couldn’t be too tight, and that this was just a tactic by Coach Kevin Stefanski to take away another game opportunity from Sanders.
Coach Kevin Stefanski said, “Obviously my focus is where we are right now. That’s not my focus.” Is he really trying hard to stay at the bottom of the league?
Sanders was a round 5 draft pick for the Browns. He has yet to have any field time and sits on the sidelines yearning to play. He did practice all of last week, and then the Browns announced his back injury.
Since the Browns have a bye week, Sanders will be able to rest and recover his back. Earlier in the season, he did have the oblique injury Samuel mentioned, which did limit his activity during preseason games. Sanders seems to get injured a lot.
Coach Stefanski says he will stay with quarterback Dillon Gabriel as a result of the Joe Flacco trade. Yet Gabriel has not been doing well, which is why fans and Samuel want Sanders to play.
Sanders could have a back problem; he had several injuries playing in college. In 2023, he suffered a fracture in his back. And being sacked over 50 times in college could bruise anybody. Sanders made a comeback in 2024, completing over 4,000 yards and scoring 37 touchdowns.

So, when will Sanders get to play? That is the question many people are asking, including Sanders himself, especially in light of how the Brown’s’ season is going so far. Currently, the Browns rank last with a 32 and an F grade in the PFSN Offense Impact metric.
There was significant controversy when Flacco got traded. The Browns are still dealing with that criticism. Now they are getting heat about Sanders not playing. Give the people what they want.
Hopefully, Sanders will be able to play later in the season. Maybe the Browns are just being super cautious regarding his injuries. If all these injuries are true, even the one holding him back now, once Sanders is healthy again, the Browns need to stop protecting their mistakes and start protecting their future. And that begins with Stefanski putting in Sanders.
