Broncos Week 9 Prediction: 3 Reasons Why Denver Can Keep Rolling Against the Texans

Bo Nix leads the Denver Broncos into Houston for a Week 9 showdown against C.J. Stroud and a top-five Texans defense. Who gains the edge?

Broncos Country, let’s ride. The 6-2 Denver Broncos face off against the 3-4 Houston Texans in Week 9. In the PFSN power rankings, this is a matchup between the eighth-best team and the 13th-best team.

Denver Broncos’ Run Game vs. Houston Texans’ Run Defense

The Houston Texans just held the San Francisco 49ers to 48 yards, moving to No. 5 in rushing yards per game allowed. But, whereas the latter ranked third-worst in rushing yards per game, the Broncos rank No. 4. J.K. Dobbins, meanwhile, is third in rushing yards per game, propelling the Broncos’ offense. This is the point of The Undertaker and Kane standing next to each other in the Royal Rumble match; something’s got to give.

While the Broncos are missing their starting left guard, the Texans are 17th in run stop win rate. In other words, the 49ers’ rushing woes last week say more about them. The Texans’ run defense is exploitable. Fire up Dobbins in fantasy football.

Broncos’ Defensive Line vs. Texans’ Offensive Line

Heading into Week 9, the Broncos’ defense allows the fifth-fewest yards per game, including the fifth-fewest points per game. The Texans, meanwhile, are middle of the pack in total yards per game at No. 17. What’s going to pop on tape this week is the Broncos’ defensive line vs. the Texans’ offensive line. The Texans’ offense is third-worst in both run block win rate and pass block win rate.

In those same categories, the Broncos’ defense is 10th and eighth, respectively. Nik Bonitto and Jonathon Cooper should bring a lot of pressure in Week 9. Both are in the top 10 of the league in sacks, with the former sitting at No. 4 with eight. Cooper totals six sacks as well.

Broncos’ Pass Offense vs. Texans’ Pass Defense

Both QBs are coming off impressive showings. C.J. Stroud passed for 318 yards and two touchdowns last week, while Bo Nix passed for 247 yards and a 4:1 TD-to-INT ratio. Give the nod to Nix, though. He’s No. 20 in PFSN’s QB Impact score, while Stroud sits at a lowly 28.

The Texans’ defense allows the fourth-fewest passing yards per game, while the Broncos’ defense allows the seventh-fewest. Both offenses may defer to running the ball. If so, wrap back around to the first point, why the Broncos beat the Texans in Week 9.
