The Pittsburgh Steelers have a lot to smile about in their first-half performance against the Green Bay Packers. They took a nine-point lead into the locker room and were hoping to extend it right out of the half. Instead, the offense went three plays before punting, and Pat Freiermuth picked up an apparent injury.
What Happened to Pat Freiermuth?
Freiermuth caught a pass in the flat and was tackled to the ground with plenty of force. It took a while for Freiermuth to get up.
He managed to find his way to the sideline and was checked out in the medical tent. Freiermuth had just two catches for seven yards when he exited the game.

Last week, all three of the Steelers’ tight ends caught touchdowns. This week, it’s only been Freiermuth who has been involved much at all.
Fantasy managers didn’t fall for Freiermuth’s unexpected 100-yard receiving game last week, as evidenced by the fact that he remains just 13% rostered in Yahoo leagues. The Steelers rotate their tight ends and really all of their pass catchers, other than DK Metcalf.

If Freiermuth has to miss time, Jonnu Smith and Darnell Washington will play more snaps, but neither is on the fantasy radar.
After coming out of the medical tent, Freiermuth was on the sideline, staying loose. Freiermuth ended up returning to the game later in the third quarter.

Freiermuth hasn’t made any more catches since he returned to the game. Outside of DK Metcalf and one big catch by Roman Wilson, the Steelers’ passing attack hasn’t been all that strong. Receptions have been shared between nine different players. The Steelers only have 139 passing yards through three quarters.
Freiermuth is the 20th-ranked tight end in the league based on PFSN’s Tight End Impact metric with an impact score of 77.5. He hasn’t been very effective in the passing game for the Steelers in 2025. He had 187 receiving yards entering tonight’s game, with 111 coming in last week’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He’s been held to one catch or fewer in three games in 2025. Tonight, it’s not much better with just two catches.
The Steelers have squandered their two-possession lead as the Packers have found some momentum. The offense is being stymied, and the defense is struggling to get stops. If Pittsburgh can’t flip the script like Green Bay already did, the game could slip away much faster than anticipated.
