NFL Announces Major Justin Jefferson News During TNF

Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson entered NFL history territory in the first half of Thursday's game against the Chargers. What did he do?

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson has been a trusted receiver for Vikings quarterbacks J.J. McCarthy and Carson Wentz this season. Jefferson is a stellar receiver who keeps on showing that he’s totally worth watching while he’s on the field.

On Thursday night, Jefferson tried his best to keep the Vikings in their game against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Despite Minnesota being down 24-10 in the third quarter, Jefferson had something to celebrate.

What Did Vikings WR Justin Jefferson Do Vs. Chargers?

In the first half, a Jefferson reception put him in NFL history lore. Jefferson became the fastest wide receiver in NFL history to reach 8,000 career yards receiving. Jefferson joined Randy Moss and Pro Football Hall of Famer Cris Carter as the only Vikings with 8,000-plus receiving yards in their careers.

So far on Thursday night through the first half, Jefferson had six catches for 72 yards with his longest reception being a 17-yarder.

He was targeted seven times by Wentz in the first half alone. Look for Jefferson to have a bigger role in the second half should Minnesota make a comeback against a stout Chargers defense.

According to the PFSN NFL WR Impact metrics, Jefferson has an 84.3 WR Impact Score and grades out at a B. In looking at the Vikings offense through the PFSN Offense Impact metrics, it has a 71.7 Offense Impact Score and grades out at a C-.

For Jefferson, it’s just another stellar mark in an already amazing career. Entering Thursday night’s game against the Chargers, Jefferson had 34 receptions for 528 yards and one touchdown, averaging 15.5 yards per catch in six games this season.

Jefferson was the Vikings’ first-round pick (No. 22 overall) out of LSU in the 2020 NFL Draft. He has played his entire six-year NFL career with Minnesota. Speaking of Jefferson’s career, entering Thursday night’s game, he had 529 receptions for 7,960 career yards (which he’s now surpassed at the 8,000-plus career yard mark).

Jefferson has scored 41 career touchdowns with the Vikings. His longest career TD reception is a 97-yarder back in the 2024 NFL season. Jefferson, on a limited basis, has been a running option for the Vikings offense at times, too. In his career, Jefferson has 14 carries for 35 yards and one rushing touchdown.

At this time, though, Wentz and the Vikings’ offense need Jefferson to get loose so Minnesota can mount a comeback against the Chargers.
