Chiefs Predicted To Trade for ‘Ultra-Fast’ 29-TD RB To Elevate Patrick Mahomes’ Supporting Cast

With the running game remaining their Achilles Heel, one analyst believes a running back could fix the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes' woes.

As the 2025 NFL season continues to progress, the Kansas City Chiefs remain one of the most fascinating teams to watch. Even though they’ve gone 3-3, they look and function like a team far better than their record might suggest. Add in the pedigree of seven consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances, and it is hard not to see them as a bona fide contender.

This year, though, there are two areas where the Chiefs seem to have a weakness. The first is their defense against the pass, which has fluctuated from week to week, depending on their opponent. However, a far bigger problem for them has been the ground game, which, outside of Patrick Mahomes himself, remains virtually nonexistent. As a result, one analyst believes that Kansas City could significantly improve its position with a trade.

Is There a Running Back Out There for the Chiefs?

Over the course of the season, one overwhelming positive for the team has become increasingly hard to ignore. As the team has become healthier and re-integrated Xavier Worthy into the mix, the offense has taken off.

Scoring close to 32 points per game in their last three outings, they are seventh on PFSN’s Offense Impact. However, their success has largely been tied to the brilliance of Mahomes and the passing game.

The running game has been an abject disaster, with neither Isiah Pacheco nor Kareem Hunt ranking in the top 20 of PFSN’s RB Impact. Moreover, the two have a combined 401 rushing yards and just one gain of over 20 yards through six games.

As a result, Bjorn Bergstrom of PFSN believes they need to be in the business for De’Von Achane. The Miami Dolphins standout has quickly become a valuable asset both in the backfield and as a pass catcher.

However, with the Dolphins imploding before our very eyes, a teardown seems like a real possibility for the franchise. In that case, Achane could become available, and Bergstrom believes the Chiefs should swoop in.

In his list of trade destinations for the star running back, he had them as the first choice, explaining their need, “For years, the Chiefs have struggled to have much pop to their offense, specifically in the backfield. While starter Isiah Pacheco is a tough runner, he’s averaging just 4.0 yards per carry this season and rarely breaks away from the second level of the defense.”

Going a step further, he believed the fit would be seamless. “With Reid scheming the plays and quarterback Patrick Mahomes orchestrating the offense on the field, it’s easy to see Achane thriving in Kansas City.”

This season, he already has 390 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, to go along with 195 receiving yards and three touchdowns through the air as well. In just three seasons, he has accumulated 2,097 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns, while also adding nearly 1,000 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.

That kind of production from the running back room could be the final piece of the puzzle for Kansas City to find its way back to the promised land.
