Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Travis Hunter is becoming a key part of the team’s offense, but his impact is being felt far beyond the football field. As the rookie prepared for a Week 6 clash against the Seattle Seahawks, a personal decision he made just hours before the game went viral, showing a side of the young star that has nothing to do with catching passes.
What Special Task Did Travis Hunter Complete Before the Jaguars’ Week 6 Game?
Hunter was baptized just before taking the field on Sunday, October 12. A video that surfaced online showed the ceremony at Celebration Church in Jacksonville, Florida, which reportedly happened just before the game began.

Cali2Jax posted the original stream on Instagram. “Couldn’t find my keys this morning and was late for church, only to come upon Jacksonville Jaguars Travis Hunter getting baptized! He asked to come get baptized before today’s game. Thank you Jesus for touching this young man’s life! 🙌🏼🔥👑🦁🥰 #jacksonvillejaguars #jacksonvillejaguarsfootball #travishunter #celebrationchurch,” the user wrote in her post.
While neither Hunter nor the Jaguars shared photos or videos of the event, fans were overwhelmingly supportive, hyping up the wide receiver as the team geared up for another game.
Meanwhile, Hunter’s wife, Leanna Lenee, was ready to cheer for the 22-year-old star. Lenee donned a cropped Jags jersey sporting Hunter’s No. 12, completing the look with black shorts and black boots.
Why Has Hunter Remained in the Spotlight for the Right Reasons?
This isn’t the first time Hunter has gained attention for his character. About six months ago, he was on a flight with a woman named Sandy Hawkins Combs. The two were co-passengers, and Combs later described him as a “polite young man.”
Charmed by his humble nature, Combs wrote: “I had the most wonderful flight home from Denver. I met the nicest young man who sat next to me. He offered to put my bag in the overhead compartment and helped me with my tray. He was always polite, saying ‘yes ma’am’ or ‘no ma’am.'”
In a full-circle moment, the two later reunited when Combs attended a Jaguars game, greeting each other with huge smiles as they embraced on the field. The interaction impressed fans, who let the organization know they did well with their No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
On the field, Hunter has been a solid contributor. The Jacksonville offense is currently ranked 13th in PFSN’s Offensive Impact metric, and Travis Hunter is ranked as the 66th wide receiver in PFSN’s WR Impact metric.
