Latest Injury Update on Virginia QB Chandler Morris

On what was ultimately the second-to-last play of the game, Morris scrambled for seven yards but took a huge blow two yards short of the goal line. Virginia trainers immediately came to his side, but the gutsy QB was able to walk off the field under his own power.

Backup sophomore QB Daniel Kaelin came in on 3rd and 1, handing the ball off to RB J’Mari Taylor for the game-winning 2-yard score.

Morris ended the game having completed 18 of 30 passes for 130 yards and a TD, adding another five carries for 27 yards (taking out sacks).

Morris has been banged up all year, suffering a thumb injury on his throwing hand in the upset win over the Florida State Seminoles in Week 5 and a left shoulder injury in late August.

Regardless, with the Week 6 victory, the multi-team journeyman (Oklahoma 2020, TCU 2021-23, and North Texas 2024) has the No. 24-ranked Cavaliers sitting pretty at 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the wide-open ACC.

Heading into the Louisville game, Virginia ranked 22nd in the country in PFSN’s CFB OFFi metric, just behind Florida State and the Miami Hurricanes in the conference.

The Cavs won’t face a ranked opponent the rest of the season, although their November gauntlet will test their mettle: California Bears, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, Duke Blue Devils, and Virginia Tech Hokies.
