The unpredictable world of fantasy football strikes again with injury concerns that can derail even the most carefully crafted lineups. When key players go down early in games, it creates a ripple effect that savvy managers must navigate quickly. Innovative roster construction and streaming options become crucial when dealing with these setbacks that can make or break your season.
Evan Engram Injury Update
Evan Engram was off to a quiet start in his first game with the Denver Broncos (four targets, three receptions, 21 receiving yards) before a calf injury ended his day early.

There haven’t been any updates to his Week 2 status, so monitor his practices this week. Calf injuries are notoriously fickle, so it wouldn’t be shocking if the veteran tight end missed at least one week, if not more. In that case, players like Pat Bryant or Troy Franklin would see their workload increase.

Engram Fantasy Outlook
On the surface, Engram recorded one catch for every six routes run in his Denver debut, which looks good. He wasn’t exactly used like the versatile weapon I was hoping for, but if that rate came on a full complement of snaps, I’d be holding steady with my Engram stocks.
But it didn’t.
A calf injury resulted in Engram playing just 29.6% of the offensive snaps, and now we have a real issue for a 31-year-old tight end on a team that doesn’t go on bye until Week 12.

The Broncos have real aspirations this season, and that leads me to believe they play it close to the vest, but that’s the last thing fantasy managers want to hear. I still think there is a valuable role for Engram to fill in Sean Payton’s offense, and maybe it takes form at the perfect time, but you’re going to have to roster a second tight end.
Brenton Strange and Chig Okonkwo are the two streaming options I would slot in front of whoever the Broncos elect to add routes to, be it Adam Trautman or Lucas Krull. Both of them ran north of 10 routes last week.

Navigating the Engram Injury
Engram’s calf injury forces fantasy managers to make immediate roster decisions. Denver’s conservative approach with its 31-year-old tight end, combined with a late Week 12 bye, makes waiting a risky move.

Streaming alternatives like Strange and Okonkwo offer better reliability than Denver’s internal options. Competent managers should pivot quickly rather than hope for Engram’s swift return from this stubborn injury type.
