San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy’s status for next week’s clash against the New Orleans Saints remains uncertain after leaving Sunday’s win with a pair of injuries.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan provided an update on Purdy, revealing that the star quarterback is dealing with left shoulder and toe injuries. Despite finishing the 49ers’ 17-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Purdy’s status remains uncertain as the team plans to closely monitor his recovery.
What Happened to Brock Purdy?
Shanahan confirmed the toe injury is more concerning, leaving Purdy day-to-day. Shanahan said the team will monitor Purdy’s recovery throughout practice this week before deciding if he can play against the Saints.
“We’re not sure. We’ve got to see how it heals and how the week goes on it,” Shanahan said.
Shanahan said Purdy injured his shoulder when he was driven into the turf in the first half but did not say when his toe injury happened.

Purdy, who signed a lucrative five-year, $265 million extension earlier this year, completed 26 of 35 passes for 277 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in the opener. Purdy connected with tight end Jake Tonges on fourth down for the game-winning touchdown with 1:34 remaining in the game.
If Purdy can’t suit up, backup quarterback Mac Jones is expected to start, and Shanahan expressed strong confidence in Jones’s ability to lead the team effectively.
“If he has to go this week, he’ll lead the guys, guys will believe in him and he’ll do his job at a really high level,” Shanahan said.
Last year, Jones started seven games in place of injured Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars went 2-5 in those starts, with Jones completing 65.3% of his throws with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions.
The Niners are also dealing with other injuries, including wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who left Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury. Although Jennings’ MRI came back clean, the team is awaiting a CT scan to determine the full extent.
Meanwhile, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk remains sidelined as he recovers from an ACL tear. All-Pro tight end George Kittle is expected to miss three to five weeks with a hamstring injury sustained against the Seahawks.
If Purdy can play next Sunday, he will be without a few of his top receiving options and will have to lean heavily on All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey and second-year wide receiver Ricky Pearsall.
