Carlos Alcaraz recently shared his thoughts about President Donald Trump attending the men’s singles final match at the 2025 US Open on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025. This marks Trump’s return to the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center after a 10-year absence, with his last appearance being during the 2015 US Open.
This year, Alcaraz is aiming to win his sixth Grand Slam title and his second at the US Open, having claimed his first title in 2022 by defeating Casper Ruud in the final.

Seeded second, Alcaraz began his campaign at the 2025 US Open by defeating Reilly Opelka (6-4, 7-5, 6-4), Mattia Bellucci (6-1, 6-0, 6-3), 32nd seed Luciano Darderi (6-2, 6-4, 6-0), and Arthur Rinderknech (7-6(3), 6-3, 6-4) in the first four rounds, respectively.
In the quarterfinals, the former World No. 1 registered a 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 victory over 20th seed Jiří Lehečka. Alacraz then secured his place in the final by defeating seventh seed Novak Djokovic in straight sets, with a score of 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-2 in the semifinals.

Following his win over Djokovic, during the post-match press conference, Alcaraz was asked about President Trump’s attendance at the men’s singles final match at Flushing Meadows. In response, the Spaniard expressed that it is always a privilege to have any country’s president present at a tennis tournament, showing support for the sport and the match.
Alcaraz mentioned that during the final, he will try to stay “focused” and not think about Trump’s presence, as doing so could make him “nervous.”
“Well, I think that it is a privilege for the tournaments to have the presidents from every country just to support the tournament and to support tennis and to support the match. For me, playing in front of him, to be honest, I will try to be focused, and I will try not to think about it. I don’t want myself to be nervous because of it. So, I think his attending the tennis match is great for tennis, to have the president in the final,” Alcaraz said.

In addition to his singles campaign, Alcaraz also competed in the mixed doubles event at the 2025 US Open alongside Emma Raducanu. They received a wildcard entry but lost to the top-seeded pair of Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper in the first round.

Following his victory over Djokovic in the semifinals of the 2025 US Open, Alcaraz is set to face the defending champion and top seed, Jannik Sinner, in the final.
Sinner won the New York Major title in 2024 by defeating Taylor Fritz in the final. This year, he began his title defense by beating Vít Kopřiva in the first round with a score of 6-1, 6-1, 6-2. He then overcame Alexei Popyrin in the second round, winning 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.
The World No. 1 triumphed over 27th seed Denis Shapovalov 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 and 23rd seed Alexander Bublik 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 in the third and fourth rounds, respectively. In the quarterfinals, he defeated his compatriot, 10th seed Lorenzo Musetti, with a score of 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, then secured his place in the final against Alcaraz by defeating 25th seed Félix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinals, with a score of 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Alcaraz and Sinner have faced each other 14 times on the ATP Tour, with the Spaniard winning nine of those matches. Their most recent encounter was in the final of the 2025 Cincinnati Open, which Alcaraz won after Sinner retired due to illness while the score was 5-0 retd.

This year, both players have also met in the finals of the 2025 French Open and the Wimbledon Championships, with Alcaraz winning at Roland Garros and Sinner claiming the London Major title.
