Opinions over Angel Reese’s potential remain divided across the WNBA. While some fans believe she does not have the star caliber to compete with the likes of Caitlin Clark, others feel she belongs among the league’s faces.
Despite fan opinions regarding players and coaches, head coach Tyler Marsh and Los Angeles Sparks legend Lisa Leslie have spoken highly of Reese’s potential. The latest legend to join that list was Candace Parker, who believes Reese has what it takes to turn into a two-way star in the league.
What Did Candace Parker Say About Angel Reese?
Last night, the Chicago Sky’s loss against the Las Vegas Aces officially eliminated them from the Playoffs in a season plagued by injuries. However, the bright spot in a rather gloomy Sky season came in the form of Reese, who has been the team’s leading force.
Discussing what the future holds for Reese, Parker shared her take on the All-Star’s trajectory.

“What is Angel’s potential? I think it’s endless, honestly. You look at her body, you look at her ability to get up and down the floor, and I don’t think it’s just on the offensive end, I think it’s on the defensive end as well,” Parker said in last night’s broadcast.
While Reese is again on track to end the season atop the rebounding leaderboard, the real delight has come in improved shooting percentages. The Sky forward was criticized for her low field goal percentage in her rookie season. However, her second season has significantly jumped, rising from 39.1% from the field last year to 45.8%.
During the preseason, coach Marsh had made it clear he wanted to maximize Reese’s output this season. Although the depletion of Reese’s supporting cast through injuries might have derailed the plans this season, Marsh would be happy, considering Reese has improved her numbers across the board. This comes as no surprise considering the Sky head coach’s player development resume.
“I think with a coach like Tyler Marsh, that has come from a winning pedigree with the Aces, that plays the style of basketball that the WNBA has set the bar for,” said Parker. “I think the sky is the limit, no pun intended.”
Why Makes Tyler Marsh a Player Development Savant?
Marsh’s coaching career started in the NBA G-League, where he served as a player development coach for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the 2012-2013 season and helped them win a championship. The Sky Coach continued his ascent with player development roles for the Toronto Raptors and the Indiana Pacers, and his expertise for developing talents gained exposure during his three-year Tenure with the Aces.

As an assistant coach and head of player development for the Las Vegas Aces, Marsh was a part of two championship-winning teams (2022 and 2023). Marsh is specifically credited with helping guard Jackie Young improve her 3-point shooting, whose accuracy increased from 25% in 2021 to 43.1% in 2022, leading to her being named the WNBA’s Most Improved Player.
This impressive resume means Chicago fans can remain calm despite a disappointing season. With Reese’s improvement evident this season, the Sky certainly appear to be on the right path.
