WNBA Legend Sheryl Swoopes Warns Caitlin Clark Against ‘Wrong Move’ Amid Fever Star’s Lengthy Injury Absence

WNBA icon Sheryl Swoopes sends crucial advice to Fever star Caitlin Clark, who is currently sidelined with a groin injury.

Indiana Fever fans expected big things before the 2025 season even started. Caitlin Clark was coming off a historic rookie year, and the front office made some bold moves, adding key pieces to the roster and the coaching staff.

Stephanie White, a former standout and one of the league’s respected coaches, signed on to lead the way.

Can Caitlin Clark Make a Strong Comeback From Injury?

Now, things have taken a rough turn. Clark has battled injuries all year, managing to play in just thirteen games. First came a quad problem, then two groin injuries, with the latest one keeping her on the bench for thirteen straight contests.

Adding to the team’s woes, Sophie Cunningham went down with an MCL tear that ended her season. Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald are out for the year, too, thanks to an ACL injury and a foot issue. Whenever Clark gets back, she’ll be returning to a much thinner lineup.

There’s still no precise date for Clark’s comeback. Meanwhile, WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes gave some vital advice to the Fever’s young guard as she works to get healthy.

Swoopes said, “Here is my concern: If and when she comes back, listen, a grown injury is a serious injury. You can sit out two months and do your rehab and all the things and feel good, and then, come game time, you can make the wrong cut, the wrong move, and there it goes again.”

Plus, Swoopes pointed out that Clark needs to focus on building back her strength after so much time off the floor.

“Caitlin’s strength of being able to see the floor and get the ball where it needs to be. And of course her logo threes with a groin injury, you lose some of that strength. Last thing is she has to get back in basketball shape, not just shape,” she added.

Swoopes has drawn criticism before for her takes on Clark, but here she seems focused on keeping the star guard healthy and ready for action. The message is clear: don’t rush the process, and watch out for setbacks.

With fourteen years in the league and four WNBA championships to her name, Swoopes knows the challenges of bouncing back from tough injuries. Clark’s own journey back starts with regaining her “basketball shape,” not just general fitness.

The Fever are still in the playoff race, but there’s no word on if Clark will suit up before the postseason. Kelsey Mitchell keeps making noise, recently scoring thirty-eight points in an overtime win against the Sun. As Mitchell and Aliyah Boston continue to step up, the team counts the days until Clark can join them on the court again.
