Indiana Fever guard Aari McDonald has been performing well, especially with Cailtin Clark sidelined. Selected third in the 2021 WNBA Draft by the Atlanta Dream, McDonald couldn’t live up to expectations in the league.
She dabbled between WNBA and overseas, but the 2025 season became a turning point. Originally, the Fever roped her via the emergency hardship exception due to injuries to Clark and Sophie Cunningham.
They signed her on June 2 before releasing her on June 13. However, injuries, notably to Clark, has forced them to re-sign McDonald, who has been stellar in her All-Star teammates’ absence.
Who Is Aari McDonald’s Husband?
McDonald is married to Devon Brewer, who formerly played defensive back for the University of Arizona. Before transferring to Arizona, Brewer played football at Fresno City College. At Arizona, he majored in literacy, learning, and leadership with a thematic minor.
He met McDonald in Fresno before they reconnected at Arizona. They got engaged after the 2020 Pac-12 Tournament and married on Sept. 23, 2021.
Brewer proposed to McDonald after the Wildcats lost the Pac-12 semi-final game to the Oregon. McDonald, who was the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, was surprised by her boyfriend after the game. For McDonald, the proposal helped her forget the hearbtreak of losing to Oregan.
“I asked a bunch of people around and that’s the best idea we came with,” Brewer said of the proposal. “We wanted all the family to be around and so it was perfect timing.”
Brewer has been a steadfast supporter, accompanying her during international play in Hungary, Australia, and China. He currently works as a behavioral health technician at GAP Ministries, focusing on children with behavioral issues. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Education.
Brewer was born on Aug. 27, 1997, in Fresno, California. McDonald was also born in the same place, but almost a year later in Aug. 20, 1998. He was high school teammates with fellow Wildcat Nick Wilson.
In 2015, Brewer played in eight games as a true freshman for Arizona, primarily contributing on special teams. He recorded two tackles in kickoff coverage, both coming in the game against USC on Nov. 7.
He attended Central High School and Milford Academy, notably earning recognition as the 2014 Milford Academy Defensive MVP. That same year, he was named a PrepStar All-West Region selection and a three-star recruit.
In 2013, he was a Blue-Grey All-American and Defensive MVP, ranked as the No. 47 cornerback by Scout.com, and rated as a three-star recruit by both Scout.com and Rivals.com.
