The landscape of tennis is changing rapidly. Only Novak Djokovic remains from the Big Three and is now facing fierce competition from stars like Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Alexander Zverev. Their big serves, heavy groundstrokes, and dominant style reflect a modern physical trend, which most top players embrace except for Alcaraz. French coach Patrick Mouratoglou recently explained this.
Patrick Mouratoglou Highlights Body Type Trend, Involving Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, and Alexander Zverev, But Not Carlos Alcaraz
In a recent clip, Mouratoglou pointed out a noticeable trend among today’s top male tennis players, highlighting their increasingly tall and lean physiques, with Djokovic, Sinner, Zverev, Tsitsipas, and Medvedev as key examples. However, World No. 2 Alcaraz stands as an exception to that trend, according to the 55-year-old.
“Clearly there is a change in terms of body type of the tennis players for the last years. They are taller and taller. They are thinner and thinner. Look at the top guys. I mean, there is one exception, Carlos Alcaraz, but all the other guys, whether it’s Djokovic, Sinner, Zverev, Tsitsipas, Medvedev,” he said in an Instagram clip.

Mouratoglou explained that today’s top players are tall, lean, and powerful, with long arms that generate greater speed, calling that a “modern body type.”
“I mean all the guys are really thin, very tall, huge serves, huge power. Because when you are able to accelerate at the same speed as someone who’s smaller but with longer arms, I mean, the ball goes much faster. And Mensik is tall, Michelsen is tall, all those guys have the same body type, and I think it’s the modern body type,” he said.
“So yeah, the generation is like this. Of course, Fonseca is one of those. Incredible power, incredible forehands, going so fast. So yes, that is the new tennis,” Mpuratoglou added.
Mouratoglou has built an impressive résumé as a tennis coach, most notably during his partnership with 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams, which yielded 10 Major titles. The Frenchman currently coaches Naomi Osaka and regularly shares technical insights and analysis of players’ games on social media.
Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, and Jannik Sinner To Miss Key Lead-Up Event to the US Open
In a surprising turn of events, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, and British star Jack Draper have all withdrawn from the upcoming Masters 1000 event in Toronto.
This update comes just days after the players wrapped up their Wimbledon campaigns. Sinner, who clinched the grass-court Major, suffered a nasty fall during his fourth-round match, injuring his right elbow. Meanwhile, Alcaraz has opted to rest in order to be in peak condition for the 2025 US Open.
Djokovic and Draper joined them on the list. While the Serb pulled out due to a groin issue, the Brit revealed he would skip the entire US Open lead-up, including the Cincinnati Masters, because of a left arm injury.
Despite these absences, the tournament will still feature prominent names such as Wimbledon semifinalist Taylor Fritz, Alexander Zverev, Holger Rune, and others
