Jannik Sinner Reveals if He Will Rush To Watch the Iconic British GP Amid Wimbledon Duties

After his dominant straight-sets victory, 6-1, 6-3, 6-1, over Pedro Martinez in the third round on July 5, Sinner got candid in his on-court interview. The Italian made quick work of Martinez, needing just over 90 minutes to advance to the Round of 16.

When asked whether he planned to attend the Formula 1 race at Silverstone the next day, the Italian made it clear that his primary focus was still on Wimbledon, he admitted he’d try to catch some of the action around his training schedule. His response showed the discipline that’s helped him reach world No. 1 status.

“No, no, no, no. I have to be focused on this tournament,” Sinner said. “But I will I will manage my practice sessions around the race. I know it’s a three now, and it is Q3 in Formula One. So I might get off and see the last rounds. And yeah, but it’s going to be exciting every week.”

The top seed in the men’s singles event jokingly said:

“Unfortunately, it’s in the middle of Wimbledon. So I guess till now I couldn’t make it, which is good for me, which means that I’m still here playing.”

He added with a smile:

“But yeah, I will, I will enjoy. And again, thank you so much for the support. It means a lot to me.”

In December 2023, Sinner teamed up with Formula 1 ahead of the 2024 season to help promote the sport by tapping into the crossover of fans between tennis and F1. As part of the collaboration, the Italian tennis star will attend select Grand Prix events, supporting F1’s efforts to boost fan engagement. The partnership makes sense, given that both sports attract similar demographics and require split-second decision-making under intense pressure.

Sinner also spoke about his love for Formula 1, sharing his genuine affection for the sport. His enthusiasm for racing has been well-documented. He often posts about F1 races on social media during the tennis offseason.

Sinner Opens Up About His Deep Connection to Formula 1 Racing

Sinner shared his passion for the pinnacle of motorsport, Formula 1, in an interview with the organization. His connection to the sport runs deeper than casual fandom, reflecting Italy’s rich motorsport heritage. Expressing his excitement, he said:

“Being Italian, F1 is in my blood, so I couldn’t be more excited to be working with not only the best brand in motorsports, but the best sports platform in the world,” Sinner said. “I am honoured to be given this opportunity and truly thrilled to be a Friend of F1.”

The world No. 1 also shared why he appreciates the similarities between tennis and Formula 1, highlighting how even the most minor details can significantly impact an athlete’s career in both sports. This perspective comes from someone who knows what it takes to compete at the highest level in individual competition.

“One of the main reasons why I love F1, whether that’s watching, karting with my friends, or racing in a simulator, is because I feel there’s a lot of synergies between tennis and racing,” Sinner said. “I feel that in both sports it’s all about the 1% and it’s the small details that make a huge difference.”

The world No. 1 elaborated on this connection, drawing parallels between the precision required in both sports.

“I find it so interesting how teams can improve the car, and how the drivers maximise their performance and their skill set to beat their rival by milliseconds. It’s fascinating how they compete and perform under the most extreme pressure at the highest level week in and week out.”

The comparison rings true for someone who’s experienced the pressure of Grand Slam tennis. Both sports demand perfection when it matters most, with no room for error at the top level.

On the tennis side, the Italian is set to face Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in the Round of 16 on Sunday, July 6. Dimitrov, a former world No. 3, will provide a stern test. The match promises to be one of the most compelling fourth-round encounters, pitting Sinner’s aggressive baseline game against Dimitrov’s all-court versatility.
