Tom Brady Shares the Current NFL Quarterback Who Reminds Him the Most of Himself

Saying Tom Brady is great is like saying the sky is blue. Everyone knows it, and no one can necessarily argue against it. What truly made Brady special, though, was his relentless will to win. Every single day of the year, whether it was the middle of the offseason or the middle of the Super Bowl, he was willing to do whatever it took to come out on top.

That unwavering dedication allowed him to retire with the most Super Bowls, playoff wins, and overall wins of any quarterback in NFL history.

It’s hard to imagine any quarterback ever coming close to what Brady accomplished in the league, but in a recent interview on Joel Klatt’s “The Joel Klatt Show: A College Football Podcast,” the legendary quarterback revealed which current signal-caller he believes shares that same drive to win.

“Everyone wants to win, but what are the habits, the daily habits, and the actionable things you need to do every day to put your team in a position to win?” Brady said. “So, Patrick Mahomes, to me, is the one that does that the most often.”

It is high praise for the Chiefs quarterback from Brady, but the numbers back it up. In modern NFL history, only one quarterback with at least 100 games has a higher career win percentage than Tom Brady, and that is Patrick Mahomes.

Brady’s first seven years as a starting quarterback saw him lead the Patriots to four Super Bowl appearances and win three of them. Mahomes’ numbers are strikingly similar. In his first eight seasons as the Chiefs’ starter, he led Kansas City to five Super Bowl appearances and won three.

Quarterbacks across the league put up impressive stats, earn All-Pro honors, and win NFL MVPs, but what truly sets the great ones apart from the special ones is the ability to win.

As Brady points out, aside from himself, no other quarterback, past or present, has had more success in winning than Mahomes. That is why the GOAT sees a bit of himself in the Chiefs’ quarterback.

Head-to-head, these two quarterbacks faced off six times before Brady retired. In the playoffs (including Super Bowl LV), Brady is 2-0. As for regular-season showdowns, Mahomes holds a 3-1 game lead. In total, the two are 3-3 against each other.
