“What happened yesterday with Mike Evans is big. It’s big, I’m serious, because now, we actually got this guy. He’s that threat that opposing teams are gonna have to pay attention to,” Rice said. “At 32, I felt like I was like a rookie. This guy’s still got a lot of fire, and what he brings to that locker room, too, the experience.
“To see this guy work every day, his preparation, these younger guys are gonna be able to witness that. You can’t even put a price on that. You can tell, I am really fired up right now.”
Evans’ leadership, contested-catch ability, and physical presence should fit seamlessly into Kyle Shanahan’s offense. His arrival is expected to open opportunities for the rest of the 49ers’ skill players while giving Purdy a dependable target in tight windows.
Rice believes the next step will be building a rhythm with Purdy, something he expects to come naturally.
