There’s an interesting twist in the tale of San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. The receiver has been linked with a trade away from Levi’s Stadium for a long time, but an agreement has yet to materialize. However, in a strange turn of events, as the front office attempts to trade him, it’s reportedly struggling to contact him.
NFL World Firmly Ties 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk To Commanders
For unknown reasons, teams, including the Niners, are struggling to get a hold of Aiyuk. In the middle of his offseason break, explanations can range from a lack of cellphone signal to simply a lack of interest.
When in shape, the wideout can be a solid asset in any offense. According to PFSN’s WR Impact Metric, the 49ers star ranked as the fourth-best wideout in the league in 2023, which was his last fully healthy season.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on the facts on Monday.
“I think the reason a team is not trading for him right now is they don’t want to assume the current contract that he has,” he said. “It’s a situation where he hasn’t been in clear and constant communication with the Niners and they have had a hard time getting a hold of him. Other teams have attempted to reach out and they have had a hard time getting a hold of him.”
The NFL community naturally had plenty to say about the strange situation.
“To absolute no surprise,” analyst Chris Russell wrote. “Media & fans simply have been so off on this pursuit and target. It’s mind-boggling.”
“The Commanders acquiring Brandon Aiyuk feels like a classic Jurassic Park situation,” The Fan’s Grant Paulsen wrote. “‘[They] were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.'”

Surprisingly, Aiyuk and Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels go way back to their college days. Daniels was a freshman at Arizona State in 2019, throwing to a senior Aiyuk that year.
The Sun Devils only went 8-5 that season with a Sun Bowl win over Florida State. What was significant, however, was the pair’s palpable connection, as the star wideout had 65 receptions for 1,192 yards and 8 touchdowns.

“Because there’s only one team Brandon Aiyuk is playing for in 2026 lol,” Commanders analyst Josh Taylor wrote, hinting at the receiver’s preference to play for the NFC East franchise.
