The Dallas Cowboys entered Sunday’s matchup against the Chicago Bears with expectations of bouncing back, but instead left Soldier Field with more questions than answers. In a 31–14 defeat that exposed glaring flaws, the Cowboys dropped a game in the standings and took a hit to their pride.
Damien Woody Calls Out the Cowboys After Ugly Loss
Former NFL offensive lineman and two-time Super Bowl champion Damien Woody didn’t hold back in his assessment of the Cowboys’ performance.
On ESPN, Woody stated plainly: “If you’re the Dallas Cowboys this morning, you should feel embarrassed by the way in which the Chicago Bears chose to come at you.”

Woody, who played 12 seasons in the NFL with the Patriots, Lions, and Jets, pointed to Dallas’ defense’s lack of heart and intensity. Though Chicago only averaged 3.0 yards per carry on 29 rushing attempts, the Bears dictated the tempo of the game and repeatedly pushed around the Dallas defensive front. According to Woody, the tape shows effort and execution issues that won’t appear in the box score.
Injuries and Turnovers Doom Dallas
The afternoon went south quickly for the Cowboys when star receiver CeeDee Lamb suffered an ankle injury on a designed run in the first quarter. While he attempted to return, it was clear that he couldn’t cut effectively, forcing Dallas to play without its most reliable offensive weapon.

Without Lamb, the Cowboys’ offense sputtered. They gave the ball away four times, three interceptions, and a costly strip by Chicago’s defense. Meanwhile, the Bears played clean football, not committing a single turnover. Winning the turnover battle is often the key to NFL success, and in this game, it proved decisive.

As the game wore on, Dallas’ defense struggled to stop the Bears from making chunk plays. What was expected to be a back-and-forth contest between two teams with defensive concerns turned into a showcase of just how vulnerable the Cowboys can look when things unravel early.
What’s Next for the Cowboys?
The Cowboys are no strangers to midseason turbulence, but this loss felt different. Woody’s comments highlight a deeper issue, an apparent lack of resilience when adversity strikes. While the final score was only a 17-point margin, the way it unfolded made the game feel out of reach by halftime.
If Dallas wants to be taken seriously as an NFC contender, it will need to clean up the mental errors, protect the football, and show more fight on defense. Losing to the Bears, a team that has struggled with consistency all season, is a reminder that the margin for error in the NFL is razor-thin.
For now, the Cowboys’ fanbase will be left echoing Woody’s words: This was embarrassing. How they respond in the coming weeks will determine if Sunday’s defeat was a turning point or the start of a downward spiral.
