2022 Senior Bowl Defensive Tackles
The National Team defensive tackles at the 2022 Senior Bowl will be coached by the New York Jets. Defensive tackle isn’t considered a priority position of need for the Jets in the 2022 NFL Draft. With that said, is there a prospect the Jets could fall in love with that they could pair with Quinnen Williams at the heart of their defensive line?
Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions’ coaching staff will lead the American Team defensive tackles in Mobile. Former Senior Bowl DT Levi Onwuzurike put on an explosive show in Mobile last season before being selected by the Lions in the second round of the NFL Draft. Will they be wowed by another player at the position this year?

Top Senior Bowl Defensive Tackles
Although the Senior Bowl DT class lacks the top two prospects on Pro Football Network’s Consensus Big Board, the depth of talent on display in Mobile is immense. Seven of the top 10 defensive tackle prospects from our board will suit up in the premier all-star game. Furthermore, those outside of the top 10 have a legitimate shot of elevating their stock in Mobile.
Although the Oklahoma defense had a disappointing campaign, DT Perrion Winfrey routinely showcased his destructive ability at the heart of the defensive line. The former JUCO standout has an alluring combination of speed, upper body strength, and disruptive length. He’s an NFL-caliber 3-technique. Currently, Winfrey ranks as the 43rd overall prospect and third-best defensive tackle in the class.

Fresh off of a national championship, Georgia’s Devonte Wyatt will look to continue his ascension up the 2022 NFL Draft class in Mobile. The highest ranking of the American Team defensive tackles at the Senior Bowl belongs to Wyatt, our 54th overall prospect and current DT4. An insane athlete wrapped up in a 315-pound frame, Wyatt is a powerful, versatile lineman with exceptional pass-rush potential.
While the world focused on Will Anderson Jr. this season, Phidarian Mathis quietly put together a monster campaign for Alabama. Having been used in multiple alignments for the Crimson Tide, Mathis is a movable chess piece who uses his length, violent hands, and power to command the line of scrimmage. He’s a prime contender to elevate his stock at the Senior Bowl, currently our fifth-ranked DT and 77th overall prospect in the class.
All-SEC roster for the American Team
Mathis and Wyatt head up an All-SEC defensive tackle lineup for the American Team at the Senior Bowl. They’re joined by Florida defensive tackle Zachary Carter, currently our 84th overall prospect. A 6’4″, 285 pounds menace, Carter has played both defensive end and across the interior for the Gators. He’s an impressive pass rusher with an arsenal of moves, and he showcases enough strength to move OL at the point of attack.
In his sole year at the SEC level, Arkansas’ John Ridgeway impressed NFL evaluators. At 6’6″ and 320 pounds, he’s a tall nose tackle who wins with power and showcases pass-rush upside from the position. Meanwhile, LSU’s Neil Farrell Jr. brings strength, surprising athletic ability at 6’4″ and 325 pounds, and a nasty demeanor to the heart of the defensive line. As a result, Farrell could be a riser in this defensive tackle class at the Senior Bowl.
Potential NFL Draft risers on the National Team
The National Team possesses two smaller school defensive tackles who should stand out at the Senior Bowl. Houston’s Logan Hall is an exciting athlete who possesses a frame that offers positional versatility in the NFL. On top of that athletic profile, he’s a powerful pass rusher. Hall also offers some polish in the form of a toolbox of moves. Hall already has a second-round grade from PFN Draft Analyst Ian Cummings and is ascending in this class.
The same can be said for UConn DT Travis Jones. A 6’4″, 333-pound monster, Jones plugs gaps in the run game while showcasing the lateral agility to scrape and pursue across the line of scrimmage. A powerful unit, he’s just a small amount of refinement and some pass-rush moves away from posing a dangerous threat as a pass rusher, too.
Ohio State’s Haskell Garrett and UCLA’s Otito Ogbonnia round out the American Team roster. Garrett is a powerful defensive tackle with a hot-running motor. Additionally, he has showcased his athletic ability with two “big man” touchdowns in his career. Ogbonnia is an under-the-radar DT prospect at the Senior Bowl. His sheer strength and violent punch will earn him some fans in Mobile.
Update: After impressing at the NFLPA Bowl, Missouri State defensive tackle Eric Johnson was added to the American Team roster at the Senior Bowl.
