The Baltimore Ravens had to advance into the 2024 NFL playoffs without their leading receiver for the season. Zay Flowers was sidelined with a knee injury for both playoff matchups.
Head coach John Harbaugh provided an update on his key playmaker this week, hoping to have him back in time for training camp.
Zay Flowers Gets Positive Update Ahead of 2025 NFL Season
The Baltimore Ravens came up two points short against the Buffalo Bills, crashing out of the NFL postseason in the Divisional Round. Multiple pass catchers on the roster stepped up, but being without their number one receiver on the year certainly disrupted the team’s rhythm.
Isaiah Likely led the Ravens offense in receiving yards against Buffalo, catching four passes for 73 yards and a touchdown in the game. Rashod Bateman had four catches for 66 yards, while Mark Andrews caught five for 61.
Head coach John Harbaugh provided an update on his primary receiver, with a confirmation that Flowers didn’t end up requiring surgery:
“It didn’t go to surgery. Actually, he was doing a little dance in the weight room this last week and said he’s feeling great, his knee’s back. He did it with rehab.”
The news will be music to Ravens fans’ ears, as surgery would have almost certainly delayed the rehab process.
Flowers had been tremendous in 2024, leading the team with both 74 receptions and 1,059 receiving yards. His absence in the postseason wasn’t ideal, and now the franchise will be hoping to have him back at 100% in preparation for 2025.
Flowers appears to be healthy already, which should mean he’s back at 100% in plenty of time for training camp.
Ravens Add Reinforcements on Offense
Flowers has now managed back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in his first two years in the NFL, and the Ravens are continuing to add talent around him.
DeAndre Hopkins marked one of the franchise’s marquee signings of the off-season, with the five-time All-Pro still able to make a significant contribution at 32 years old. He spent the latter portion of the 2024 season with the Kansas City Chiefs after being traded by the Tennessee Titans in late October.
Baltimore also added rookie receiver LaJohntay Wester, who could offer rotational relief for Zay Flowers in a similar role. They drafted the Colorado receiver in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft, adding more speed and production out of the slot to their roster.
Wester is also a talented returner, which could mean plenty of work for him early in his career on special teams. He totaled 739 punt return yards in his five years of college football, including a punt return touchdown in each of the past two seasons.
