Miami Dolphins quarterback Zach Wilson’s mother, Lisa, recently took to Instagram to share a vulnerable message about her marriage to Mike, Zach’s father.
The post included a photo of the two, seemingly by a pool, with the caption, “We went through some rough years. But we made it. Don’t give up it gets so good.”

Recent Health Scare for Zach Wilson’s Father
The post on Lisa’s Instagram story comes after she shared a video on social media in February detailing a liver problem Mike was having. You can find the posts archived on her Instagram account.
In them, she says, “I am actually at the hospital because my husband, my big, strong, handsome husband that is not sick at all, that feels amazing, that feels better than he ever has in his whole entire life… he’s getting a liver biopsy.”
“This is actually kind of personal information, and so I haven’t really shared it yet, but I’m going to be ok. I’m just a really emotional person and it’s a hard day for me.”
This happened after the two took blood tests together.
“We did not do it because anyone didn’t feel good or anyone was sick, we 100 percent did it because we just wanted a game plan for our wellness,” said the mother of six, including the NFL signal-caller.
“So we got our blood drawn at the start of our journey, maybe a year and a half ago, and he had really high liver enzymes. Everything else looked great, he looked really healthy, and he was healthier then. So they thought maybe he had fatty liver.”
This came after Mike was advised to lose weight, but the family learned the issue was only worsening. “Then he went and got his blood taken again and it’s just getting worse and worse and worse and worse,” she shared.
The issues with his liver came despite his never drinking alcohol.
“I’m a little bit bitter right now, I’m a little pissed off,” she said. ‘We’ve worked our whole lives for this moment, and so I’m praying everything’s going to be ok.”
Mike coached Zach during his youth years and was a defensive lineman for Utah in the 1990s. The story archive is titled “Liver stuff” and features Lisa’s video and various pictures and videos of Mike in the hospital.
The most recent post in the archive is from last week, with a screenshot of a podcast titled “The Key To Managing Autoimmunity & Thyroid Issues. – With Dr. Josh Redd.”
Wilson’s Current NFL Status
In March 2025, just weeks after his mother announced his father’s health status, the former BYU quarterback signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Miami Dolphins.
The New York Jets drafted him No. 2 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Wilson played there from 2021 to 2023 and went 12-21 as the starter.
After a disappointing stint with the Jets, Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos along with a seventh-round draft pick in exchange for a sixth-round pick. Wilson did not appear in a game for the Broncos in his lone season in Denver.
After he signed his contract with the Dolphins, his mother shared a post of Wilson with the caption, “Love this and him.”
