Terry McLaurin’s contract standoff with Washington has reached a breaking point. The Pro Bowl receiver hasn’t heard from the Commanders in over a month and is threatening to skip training camp. But he’s not fighting this battle alone.
What Did Zach Ertz Say About Terry McLaurin’s Contract Situation?
McLaurin has spent six seasons with Washington, drafted by the team in 2019. Over the past five years, he has recorded at least 1,000 yards each season and earned Second-Team NFL All-Pro honors for the 2024-25 season.
Now entering the final year of his second contract with the team, McLaurin is seeking a new deal. However, negotiations with the Commanders remain far apart.
Multiple people have spoken out about the situation, including McLaurin’s teammate Zach Ertz. On “The Up & Adams Show,” host Kay Adams asked Ertz about the ongoing dispute, and his support for his teammate was clear.
“I hope he gets paid as much as he wants to get paid”

“For me, I’m rooting for Terry,” Ertz said. “I hope he gets paid as much as he wants to get paid.”
While Ertz backed McLaurin, he acknowledged that he understands it’s a business and isn’t sure what the conversations are between the wide receiver and the Commanders’ front office behind closed doors. He believes the two sides have plenty of time to reach a deal.
“I don’t know the business that’s going on, I’m not privy to the conversations,” Ertz said. “What is it, July 16? The first game is September 7. There’s a lot of time between now and then to get something done.”
Will Washington End Up Paying Terry McLaurin?
While Ertz is right that the two sides have plenty of time to reach an agreement, the situation is getting more tense as training camp approaches. McLaurin threatened to hold out of training camp if he and the Commanders don’t start having productive conversations.

“I don’t necessarily know what happens next, but without any progressive discussions, it’s kind of hard to see how I step on the field,” McLaurin said.
McLaurin has been the Commanders’ most consistent and best pass catcher since the team drafted him in 2019. He’s played with a carousel of quarterbacks and has stayed loyal to the organization.
Now that Washington has found their franchise signal-caller in Jayden Daniels, the organization faces a decision about paying McLaurin what he is seeking to ensure that their young quarterback has his best weapon. Washington has let this issue linger, and they need to address it before it’s too late.
