Youngest Coach To Win a Super Bowl (Updated 2024)

Winning the Lombardi Trophy is the biggest achievement that any NFL head coach could hope to attain throughout their career. When looking at the long list of winners throughout the NFL’s existence, there is one name that pops out, especially when dates of birth are listed. Who is the youngest coach to win a Super Bowl?

Who’s the Youngest Coach To Win a Super Bowl?

Los Angeles Rams wunderkind Sean McVay was already the youngest coach to qualify for the postseason, win a playoff game, and appear in a Super Bowl. McVay was just 33 when the Rams won the NFC and lost to the Patriots in Super Bowl 53.

However, after returning to his second Super Bowl and defeating the Cincinnati Bengals at 36 years and 20 days old, McVay also became the youngest coach to win a Super Bowl.

    Sean McVay Accomplished the Impossible

What McVay did with the Rams was unheard of. When he became the youngest coach to win a Super Bowl, he beat the previous record holder, Mike Tomlin, by nearly a full year (301 days).

Tomlin was in his second season when the Pittsburgh Steelers won the Super Bowl. McVay capped off his fifth season as Rams coach with a 23-20 win over the Bengals in Super Bowl 56.

The Rams finished their 2021 Super Bowl winning season with a 12–5 record, thanks largely in part to the offseason acquisition of quarterback Matthew Stafford. The Rams’ offense ranked ninth in yards (6,325) and tied with the Bengals for eighth in points scored (460) that season. Stafford had career highs in touchdowns (41) and completion percentage (67.2).

The biggest benefactor of the Rams’ impressive offense was wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who became the fourth NFL player and first since 2005 to obtain the receiving triple crown by leading the league in receptions (145), receiving yards (1,947), and receiving touchdowns (16). He also won the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year award due to his impressive numbers.
