Prior to being selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Xavier Worthy turned heads by becoming the fastest player in the history of the NFL Combine. Here’s everything you need to know about the Chiefs rookie wide receiver.

    How Tall Is Xavier Worthy?

Worthy is a smaller wide receiver, measuring in at just 5’11 1/4″ at the NFL Combine. When it comes to his wingspan (74 1/4 inches), arm length (31 1/8 inches), and hand size (8 3/4 inches), these were also on the smaller side in comparison to other wide receivers around the league.

    How Much Does Worthy Weigh?

Worthy weighed in at just 165 pounds, making him the lightest receiver measured at this year’s NFL Combine (although several of his peers were around the same weight).

While Worthy is certainly slim, his frame has never prevented him from succeeding at any level. In fact, his smaller build likely contributes to his blazing speed.

    How Old Is Worthy?

Born on April 27, 2003, Worthy is 21 years old. He was born in Fresno, California, and attended Central East High School, where he earned a four-star rating from 247 Sports as a highly touted recruit. Compared to the other rookies in this draft class, Worthy is on the younger side.

What School Did Worthy Go To?

While in high school, Worthy initially committed to Michigan, but an administrative issue ultimately led him to attend Texas instead.

Worthy played three years of college football, and he spent all of them with the Longhorns after joining the program in 2021.

    Revisiting Worthy’s College Career

As a true freshman, Worthy racked up 62 catches for 981 yards and 12 touchdowns — all of which were Texas freshman records. As a result, he earned Freshman All-American honors from ESPN and The Athletic.

As a sophomore, Worthy’s stats dipped a bit, but he still had another productive season. He finished his second year at Texas with 60 catches for 760 yards and nine touchdowns.

His true breakout season occurred in 2023 when Worthy put up career-highs of 75 catches and 1,014 receiving yards along with five touchdowns. He helped lead Texas to a Big 12 Championship and the program’s first appearance in the College Football Playoff.

After his junior season, Worthy declared for the 2024 NFL Draft and he was viewed as one of the better wide receiver prospects in the class.

    Worthy’s Record-Breaking 40-Yard Dash

Entering the NFL Combine, Worthy talked a big game, stating that he was coming for John Ross’ 40-yard dash record.

Sure enough, he managed to run the fastest 40-yard dash in NFL Combine history. Worthy’s 4.21-second 40-yard dash broke the record that was previously held by Ross, who ran it in 4.22 seconds.

After his record-setting run, Worthy was actually disappointed with his time.

“I feel like if I had another run, I would’ve gone faster,” Worthy said in an interview with Rich Eisen.

Worthy was already garnering significant attention from NFL teams thanks to his production at Texas, but his draft stock soared after this, and he received a ton of media attention.

Now, as a member of the Chiefs, it should be fun watching Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes find ways to involve a WR with that kind of game-changing speed.

Worthy is expected to play a significant role with Kansas City as a rookie, especially with fellow speedster Hollywood Brown sidelined early in the season after he dislocated the sternoclavicular joint in his shoulder in the preseason.
