Flau’jae Johnson Gives Heartfelt Response to LSU Teammates’ Emotional Message Ahead of Final Year Together

Flau’jae Johnson embraces her “Last Ride” with LSU, closing a chapter that began with belief and built into something bigger.

LSU women’s basketball is coming off another good season. The Tigers finished 31-6, going 12-4 in conference play, and were a nightmare at home with a near-perfect 19-1 record. Their March Madness run, despite ending early, was memorable. The game against Florida State was one for the books.

That night, Mikaylah Williams and Flau’jae Johnson took down the Seminoles, 101-71. Williams scored 28 points on 10-of-12 shooting, while Johnson scored 13. The Tigers’ balanced attack hit 56.2 percent from the field, set a program NCAA record with 29 assists, and went on to punch their tickets to the Sweet Sixteen. That kind of chemistry was built over the years on and off the court. And this week, the Tigers fandom saw the off-court admiration.

Flau’jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams Share Touching “Last Ride” Moment

Earlier today, Mikaylah Williams posted a picture on Instagram of her and Johnson hugging in LSU jerseys. She captioned it writing, “first day of our last ride tg @flaujae.” Johnson reposted it and wrote, “Awe, my sister, I love you 12. Let’s rock.” That encapsulates the relationship between the two perfectly.

Later, Johnson took to X and wrote, “This made me tear up ngl.”

Williams and Johnson have been tied together since committing to the Tigers. In 2022, when the two committed to LSU, Williams said, “We’re gonna be here together, and we’re basically gonna take over.” And no doubt, they have done exactly that.

Last season, Johnson, Williams, and Aneesah Morrow became the Tigers’ “Big Three,” all landing spots on the 2025 All-SEC First Team. It was the first time in program history that LSU had three players named to the list, and their combined points stood at 54.6 per game. Together, they became the heartbeat of Kim Mulkey’s squad.

Johnson went on to average 18.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game last season. Meanwhile, Williams started all 37 of the Tigers’ games, averaging 17.3 points and 4.5 rebounds. But Williams’s words, “last ride”, hit differently because this season could be the end of a long Tigers chapter for Johnson.

Johnson was, after all, the woman who kick-started the Mulkey era. As Mulkey put it, “I remember when I took the LSU job, Flau’jae Johnson was the first McDonald’s All-American I signed at LSU. I had not coached and won anything at LSU, and she came to LSU. So she jump-started our program, really.”

Johnson has been loyal to the program since. She even decided to forgo the last WNBA draft for another season at the Tigers. With her booming NIL presence, rap career, and national spotlight, Johnson already has opportunities most college athletes only dream about. Her NIL stood close to last Draft’s No.1 pick, Paige Bueckers, and her stats are just as good.

Yet, she stayed back the Tigers. However, 2026 might change that. ESPN already has Johnson at No.5 in the ‘Top prospects for the 2026 WNBA draft. She, after all, had 38.3% from deep, 42 made threes, and an 81% clip at the line last season.

Now, years later, Johnson and Williams will be taking their “last ride” together before the WNBA madness comes calling.
