Dawn Staley and Team’s Chemistry Flourish Through Dance and Laughter

The coach playfully ranked the dance performances, crowning Tac as “the conductor” while declaring Kitts was “coming in 3rd place.”

The trio appeared to be performing to Chris Brown’s “Wall to Wall” on the Gamecocks’ home court. Tac quickly responded to Staley’s post with “She’s a dancerrrr.”

Meanwhile, Kitts reshared the content with laughing emojis.

Staley has previously emphasized, “I need to have a personal relationship with each player,” believing that authentic connections create the foundation for on-court success.

Staley’s relationship with Kitts has evolved significantly since Kitts arrived at South Carolina as an early enrollee in December 2022. The coach has been instrumental in Kitts’ development, helping her mature from a freshman with limited playing time to a key contributor.

“I am super proud of Chloe,” Staley stated at a press conference, noting how Kitts has matured mentally, physically, and emotionally. The coach particularly appreciates Kitts’ personality and comfort in her own skin, a trait evident in her reaction to the playful dance ranking.

For Tac, the dance moment represents her integration into the team culture despite facing significant challenges with injuries. After missing her junior year of high school with a foot injury and suffering a season-ending knee injury as a senior, Tac enrolled early at South Carolina.

Staley showed her commitment to Tac’s development when she said, “We’ll get her here, we’ll get her right. She’ll be suiting up for us.” This support has created a strong bond, with Tac feeling comfortable enough to dance alongside her coach.

The connection between Kitts and Tac has also flourished, built on their shared experience as early enrollees. “I have a really great relationship with Chloe,” Tac has stated, explaining how they’ve discussed the challenges of transitioning to college basketball ahead of schedule.

During the 2023-24 championship season, Kitts played a vital role in South Carolina’s national championship victory over Iowa. She contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds in the title game, earning recognition as part of the team that achieved a perfect 38-0 season.

The dance routine reveals a lighter side of the powerhouse program that finished the 2024-25 season with a 35-4 record. While Staley has built her championship legacy through tactical brilliance and player development, these unguarded moments show how these connections drive South Carolina’s winning culture.
