‘Not Impressed’ – WNBA World Reacts As The Athletic’s Analysts Apologize for Incorrect Caitlin Clark Claim

WNBA analyst Zena Keita issued an apology after making a false Caitlin Clark and Olivia Miles claim, but fans remain unsatisfied.

The ground shook within the WNBA world once again after “No Offseason: The Athletic Women’s Basketball Show” made a glaring error while recording last week.

Analyst Zena Keita incorrectly claimed that Minnesota Lynx guard Olivia Miles holds the single-season rookie assist record. However, Caitlin Clark still owns this title. The slip-up caused a significant rise among fans.

Following the incident, Keita issued an apology, but listeners are still up in arms.

WNBA World Unsatisfied With Zena Keita’s Apology After False Caitlin Clark Claim

In Keita’s apology video on “No Offseason,” she stated, “We need to correct an error that we made last week in our episode that came out Thursday. In that show, we incorrectly stated that Olivia Miles holds the all-time assist record for a rookie, and as many of you pointed out, that record still resides with Caitlin Clark from her rookie season in 2024.”

She added, “So thank you to everyone for pointing that out, and just to say, that is an error that really should not happen. We at ‘No Offseason’ take full responsibility for that and we will continue to do our due diligence and thoroughly verify the facts as we prepare for the shows. We appreciate your understanding.”

Upon the video’s release, a flurry of criticism poured in from fans, one of whom claimed she was “trying to save her reputation.”

One user reposted the video and wrote, “I’m not impressed with her reading a pre-written apology that she probably didn’t even write herself. She just need to clean it up. She been trash when it comes to Caitlin since day 1. Apologies don’t mean [expletive] without changed behavior.”

In the comments, one account chimed in with, “The only thing is she tried doubling down on social media saying it was an out of context error but contradicted herself with that in the show. This is a teleprompter apology and means nothing tbh. Hopefully she learns, but this is an executive decision for an apology. Not her.”

Keita’s apology was bound to face heat, whether it was genuine or simply from the executive team. Moving forward, all eyes will be on her.

Another user sarcastically commented, “This photo really sums up how genuine this apology was.”

One fan even responded with, “Must have been humiliating for her. Lol. See the other person’s face.”

Adding to the mayhem was another user who wrote, “I still don’t buy it was an innocent mistake: how do you follow and comment on women’s basketball and not know that CC led the league in assists that year with over 8 a game? She had 337 but simple math 40 x 8 = 320 must have told you that 228, 6 assists a game was way short.”
