‘Most Selfless Player I’ve Seen’ – WNBA World Raves After Caitlin Clark’s Historic Double-Double in Team USA’s World Cup Opener

WNBA social media effusively praised Caitlin Clark on the strength of her double-double during the FIBA World Cup opener.

Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark is a polarizing player because of certain aspects of her game. The WNBA star possesses almost infinite range, shredding defenses but also frustrating opposing fans.

Between the lines, when the game matters most, Clark boasts a reputation as a pure shooter and scorer who makes big shots. Furthermore, one of the best parts of her games can go unnoticed. Yet, social media, ever observant, made a point of praising the star guard for this particular trait.

WNBA Social Media Responds to Caitlin Clark’s Epic Double-Double

Making her FIBA World Cup debut on Friday, Clark scored 14 points and dished out 11 assists. Team USA defeated China 94-61. After the game, social media lavished kudos upon the guard.

“She’s the most selfless player I think I’ve ever seen! She’s the same in everything else she does! I know her parents are proud of her,” stated one X user. Clark, achieving a double-double off the bench is quite the feat. While she is known for her scoring in the WNBA. Clark averages 8.4 assists a game.

Clark’s shooting prowess forces the defense to spread out, weakening it as they must cover more ground. Even off the bench, the former Iowa superstar finds a way to make history.

“Caitlin Clark is the first USA player with 10 assists in a World Cup game since Dawn Staley’s 12 assists vs. Russia in 1998,” stated another user.

By joining one of the best passers in international women’s basketball history, Clark continues to open eyes and surprise many who believed they’d seen it all. In the minds of many, she stands alone in her position.

“Quite literally the best point guard on the planet, and it’s not close. Regardless of what social media tries to tell you. The eyes don’t lie,” boasted another X user.

Traditionally, the point guard is the floor general, the facilitator who moves the offense. Clark accomplishes that while still putting the ball in the basket. Perhaps the most important stat is one that Clark did not register, adding an extra layer of accomplishment. “Turnover police where we at today, eh??” pondered one user.

In the WNBA, Clark has averaged 5.1 giveaways during her career. Being a ball-dominant point guard and avoiding turnovers paces the offense and keeps the other four players on the court engaged. Similarly, when one of your teammates plays the same position but can move off the ball, Team USA will probably dominate.

“Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers are having a blast playing off each other I’ll tell you that much,” announced a user.

Granted, Bueckers and Clark are both point guards, but Bueckers can score at all three levels with the ability to slide over to the shooting guard spot. The game against China, which fielded a few bigger, much stronger players, didn’t seem to faze her.

“Caitlin Clark double-double. Curtains closed. I thought she was going to have a hard time with the physicality? We thrive under pressure.” exclaimed another X user.
