Sue Bird Reflects on Powerful Journey With Taurasi

In the premiere episode of the Prime Video docuseries Taurasi, titled “A Star in Storrs,” Sue Bird opens up about the roots of her connection with Diana Taurasi. Recalling their first days as UConn teammates, Bird says,

“D came into school, and right away, there’s an energy to her. There’s a charisma to her. She was the first one to tease you, but also the first one to put her arm around you. That says a lot about her.”

Taurasi reflects on being the younger player:

“Sue is two years older than me. When you’re a freshman, you’re a freshman. Nobody gives a shit about you. But we became friends.”

Bird also touched on Taurasi’s California style of play, saying,

“D had that West Coast vibe. It’s a little more chill, it’s a little more showy. In practice, she’d be a little loose with it, turn it over. That wasn’t gonna fly,” setting the stage for Geno Auriemma’s intense practice scenes.
