9 WNBA Players Who Could Be Traded Before the Deadline, Including Marina Mabrey and Aaliyah Edwards

With the WNBA's trade deadline rapidly approaching, these 9 players could be getting ready to be on the move.

The WNBA trade deadline is rapidly approaching on August 7, and there could be some commotion around the league. Let’s take a look at 10 players who could potentially be traded prior to the deadline.

1) Marina Mabrey

While Marina Mabrey is having a solid season in terms of numbers, the Connecticut Sun as a team is on the opposite trajectory. At 5-22, the Sun are dead last in the league standings, and it doesn’t appear to be getting much better. They’ve been in a rebuilding state for the last few seasons and are still trying to figure things out, but it’s clear that their current roster isn’t the outlook for the future.

Mabrey, in particular, requested a trade over the offseason, though it wasn’t fulfilled.

As the deadline approaches, it could finally be time for her to receive her wish. Mabrey was traded from the Chicago Sky last season and hasn’t had a chance to compete for a title as of late. Her skills are simply too good to go to waste, so it would make sense that she gets moved to a contender or a team hoping to compete.

2) Aaliyah Edwards

In just her second season, Aaliyah Edwards of the Washington Mystics has shown a lot of upside. She’s only averaged just over six points per game, but has a ton of room to grow. Unfortunately, she’s been on a team that isn’t up for competing, which is why she could be on the move.

Though her age is perfect for a rebuilding Mystics, her talent could be used on another team, such as the Golden State Valkyries, who are new and could use young talent. Edwards would come in and immediately help, and it would be for a team that still has a shot at the playoffs.

3) Kia Nurse

Kia Nurse is on her fifth team in as many seasons, and she could be on the move again very soon. The Chicago Sky have had a very disappointing season thus far, and her talent could be used elsewhere. There is some promise that the Sky have a future, especially with Angel Reese’s continued success, but Nurse is approaching 30, and she could be better off on a team that has more to offer.

4) Elizabeth Williams

Eliabeth Williams, also on the Sky, is in a very similar situation to Nurse. That said, she’s a few years older than Nurse and has had a better season thus far. In fact, she’s coming off a very impressive 15-point and 15-rebound performance against the Mercury, displaying that she has a ton of potential to help a contender. At least one of Nurse and Williams is likely to go, though Williams would be a more likely option due to her age.

5) Arike Ogunbowale

There’s a repeating pattern here, in that Arike Ogunbowale is yet another talent on a bad team that could be on the move to go compete for a title. That said, there’s a particular emphasis on Ogunbowale as she’s very talented, and her team is the second worst in the league.

The Dallas Wings could be a good situation for her if she were a few years younger, given that Paige Bueckers has entirely lived up to the hype, and the future might bring positive results. But approaching 30, she might want to take her talent to a team that is on a better trajectory.

6) Myisha Hines-Allen

Going from one of the best teams in the league to one of the worst teams in the league isn’t the best situation to be in. Myisha Hines-Allen is having a down year from last year, and she’s on a worse team, which could be all the information needed to know that it’s not the best fit for her. Similar to Ogunbowale, she’s old enough for it to be a worthwhile situation for her.

7) Tina Charles

One of the best WNBA players of all time could be on the move. 36-year-old Tina Charles is still competing as one of the best in the league. This season, she has been averaging 16.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while shooting 41.6% from the field.

The former No. 1 overall pick in 2010 is now on the worst team in the league, and as she nears retirement, she could look to compete for her first championship.

Charles is one of the best players of all time who has never won a championship, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Sun help her out and trade her to a contender for some help in the future.

8) Tiffany Hayes

While Tiffany Hayes isn’t in a bad position on the Valkyries, she’s 35, and they aren’t exactly eager to have aging players on their roster. Hayes is having a solid season, averaging 12 PPG on 44.2 percent from beyond the arc. She could help a team, make a run in the playoffs, and give the Valkyries either some younger talent or draft capital.

9) Kate Martin

Though she was just drafted to the Valkyries this season, many think Kate Martin could be a great fit on the Indiana Fever. While this is more of a fantasy or a hope for Iowa Hawkeyes fans, it could make some sense.

The Fever have been having a lot of success lately, so they won’t be looking to make any major additions this season. Martin would be able to provide an extra spark, and she’s a young talent who has previous chemistry with Clark.
