Being an athlete is already a tough undertaking, and finding balance in everyday life can feel like solving a jigsaw puzzle. WNBA superstar and social celebrity Angel Reese seems to have found her balance with her on-the-court responsibilities and off-the-court social endeavors.
Angel Reese Models in Victoria’s Secret Show and Returns to Off-Season Workouts
This past Wednesday, on October 15, Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese modeled as part of the Victoria’s Secret runway show. The 6-foot-3 second year phenom donned all pink while sporting the iconic Victoria’s Secret angel wings during the show. In a post made by the Overtime Women’s Basketball Instagram page, it shows a side-by-side comparison of her modeling for the show and working out sometime after.
Many WNBA fans have doubted how dedicated Reese is to being the best player and reaching her potential in leading the Sky as their face of the franchise. The post definitely makes it clear that Angel understands where her priority lies, but she also understands the value of building a global brand outside of basketball.
As a player only in her second WNBA season, she has already hit several milestones, including being the sixth player all time and the second player since Aces star A’ja Wilson entered the WNBA in 2018 to begin a season with three straight games of 10 or more points and eight rebounds. She is the all-time leader in consecutive double-doubles, with her longest streak being 15 games, and she ranks first in the WNBA rebounds per game category with 5.1 a game.
Reese started gaining national attention during her time at Louisiana State University, playing for Coach Kim Mulkey and even winning a national title against powerhouse University of Iowa and Caitlin Clark. Her strong play throughout that season would lead her to be selected in the first round with the number seven pick by the Chicago Sky.
Although Reese has yet to witness overall team success within the franchise, she wasted no time since entering the WNBA in making her mark to be recognized as one of the best talents that the league has to offer. She has also met some early criticism for her offensive struggles and not being able to produce on the offensive side of the floor like many other players in the league at her position.
However, Reese seems to be hard at work during the off-season and preparing her body for the physicality that basketball as a sport presents. All the off-season preparation may help her finally lead the Chicago Sky, after a disappointing 10–34 record, in a positive direction. The Sky compete within a tough WNBA Eastern Conference with other strong teams like the New York Liberty, Atlanta Dream, and Indiana Fever, alongside former LSU teammate Hailey Van Lith.
Seeing WNBA players be global models and brand ambassadors is nothing new in this modern social media era. Former Chicago Sky player Kysre Gondrezick found much more success off the court with modeling in the past year, and Dallas Wings player Dijonai Carrington is a brand ambassador and model for Reebok sneakers. This has proven to be a very lucrative avenue for WNBA professionals.
With Reese showing fans and the public sports community that she has mastered making time for both parts of her life, after seeing a glimpse of her work ethic behind the scenes, maybe she will garner more respect from fans.
