Who Is Joshua Hines-Allen, Myisha Hines-Allen’s Brother?

Joshua was born on July 13, 1997, in Cumberland, Va. He is the brother of WNBA star Myisha Hines-Allen. Both Joshua and Myisha grew up playing sports. Joshua was really talented in football. Several Division I schools recruited him, and he ended up playing football at Kentucky.

While playing the position of linebacker/edge rusher, he was able to rack up several awards during his time as a college football player. During his senior year of college, he grabbed the attention of several NFL scouts after winning awards such as the Bronko Nagurski trophy, SEC Defensive Player of the Year, and also being a unanimous All-American.

    Joshua Hines-Allen’s NFL Career

After his time at Kentucky, he was drafted in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Since being drafted, he has established himself as a focal point of the Jaguars’ defense. In his rookie season, he set a record for the Jaguars, recording 10.5 sacks in the regular season. He was also named to the Pro Bowl team.

The 2023 NFL season was a career year for Hines-Allen. He recorded a whopping 17.5 sacks, which put him in second place in the NFL for sacks. He also earned his second Pro Bowl selection. Then, in 2024, he signed a five-year, $141.25 contract with Jacksonville, ensuring that he will be a cornerstone of the team for years to come.

In July of 2024, he announced that he would be changing his last name to Hines-Allen from the singular Allen he had been known by. He did this because he wanted to honor his family’s legacy.

Having family members who played in the NBA and having a big sister who currently plays in the WNBA had a big influence on his decision. When he announced this change, he said, “Legacy is forever, and I’m proud to carry that tradition on the back of my jersey, following in the footsteps of my family, who have donned the Hines-Allen last name with so much pride and joy”.
