Georgia Amoore has become a standout in women’s basketball, winning fans over with her grit, talent, and sharp game sense. As she closes in on what looks to be a promising pro career, it’s a good time to look back at where it all started.
Behind every great player is a strong support system—and for Georgia, that starts with her parents, Phil and Kelly Amoore. Their support has played a big role in her journey.
Who Are Georgia Amoore’s Parents?
Phil and Kelly Amoore are from Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, where they raised Georgia and her siblings, Jemma and Toby.
Phil has a background in sports. He played both Australian rules football and netball growing up. These days, he works as a lift truck specialist. Kelly, meanwhile, has built a life around horses. She runs the Sylvan Lodge Equine Center, where she trains and rehabilitates horses.
Georgia was into sports from the start. She tried it all as a kid — Aussie rules football, cricket, taekwondo, swimming and netball. Her mom, Kelly, remembers it clearly:
“Being the firstborn, we let her play as many sports as she wanted. I even pushed her to try different ones because, honestly, I worried basketball might be tough for her with her height.”
But she decided to stick with basketball. She picked up the game at just 5 years old, inspired by a cousin who used to play. Even though she gave other sports a shot, it didn’t take long for her love of basketball to take over.
The Amoores didn’t just cheer Georgia on from the sidelines — they stood by her when things got tough, too.
One of the hardest moments came during the COVID-19 pandemic. While many international students headed home, Georgia made the tough call to stay in the U.S. so she could keep her spot at Virginia Tech.
Her mom, Kelly, shared what that time was like:
“She didn’t want to come home because she wasn’t sure if she’d be able to get back into the USA. She was committed to Virginia Tech and Coach (Kenny) Brooks and wanted to stay.”
It wasn’t easy, but the family backed her all the way. Even when it meant being apart during uncertain times, they knew how much her dream mattered.
The Amoore Family’s Athletic Legacy
Georgia’s younger sister, Jemma, is making her own mark on the basketball court. She played for both the junior and senior Ballarat Miners and even captained the Victorian state team at the U20 Australian Junior Championships in February 2023. Currently, she’s a freshman guard at Sacramento State, continuing the family’s connection to the sport at the college level.
Their brother, Toby, has also stayed active in sports back home in Australia — adding to what’s become a pretty solid family legacy in athletics.
Georgia Amoore is officially on the radar for the 2025 WNBA Draft, set for April 14 — and she’s turning heads.
Now with the Kentucky Wildcats, she’s been a standout at point guard. During the 2024–25 season, she averaged 19.6 points and 6.9 assists per game. That kind of stat line doesn’t go unnoticed. Analysts and scouts have been buzzing about her ability to score, create plays and lead on the court.
