Angel Reese is already a massive name in the WNBA. The Chicago Sky drafted her as the No. 7 overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Reese played 34 games in her rookie season, averaging 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game before suffering a hairline fracture in her Wrist on September 6.
Reese’s journey from Saint Frances Academy to Chicago has been sensational, and her parents, Michael Reese and Angel Webb Reese, have passed on their athleticism alongside their unwavering support.
Meet Michael Reese and Angel Webb Reese: Parents Behind Angel Reese’s Rise
The Chicago Sky forward was born to Michael and Angel Webb Reese in Randallstown on May 6, 2002. She is the eldest child of the family. Her younger brother, Julian Reese, was born on June 30, 2003. He just finished his fourth year with the University of Maryland’s basketball team.
In a YouTube video on the March Madness channel, both Julian and Angel claimed that they used to win against each other all the time when they were little. “100 to 20?! He’s out of his mind. He knows I have the better shoe, he buys expensive stuff though.” Angel said after she got to know the odds Julian gave.
The WNBA star’s mother suited up for the University of Maryland during her college days. She earned a place in UMBC’s Athletics Hall of Fame. The university has also retired her jersey number (#10). Angel Webb later played professionally in Luxembourg.
The 2024 WNBA rebounding leader credits her mother for motivating her to pursue a career in basketball. When she was a kid, the Sky’s forward used to attend her mother’s games on Sundays.
The 23-year-old’s father, Michael, played college basketball for Boston College and later joined the Loyola University Maryland team, leading them to an NCAA tournament in 1993-94. He played in various European countries, including Portugal and Austria.
The former LSU forward’s parents separated when she was young. Her mother raised both the kids by herself. Her decision to choose the University of Maryland was a gesture of gratitude towards her mother.
“My mom worked hard [when I was] growing up, raising us by herself. So that was my payback to her,” she told Women’s Health.
During an episode of her show “Unapologetically Angel”, she celebrated her mother’s birthday by paying off her mortgage and retiring her.

The WNBA player has learned from her mother than one should always work hard from and keep putting in more efforts. She is glad to have made it to the WNBA and grateful to her mother for everything she has done.
“Looking at her and seeing how she never backed down to anything. She always stood her ground for everything, she worked super hard for me and my brother to get in this position,” she told ESPN. “Being able to just look at her and say ‘Mom, you showed me. You paved the way for me.’ “
